We all know mods are been suggesting by the other mods etc
So what about a new system to elect new moderators
A new section in the forums where all moderator applications will be posted and on those applications Epicmafia can vote on so its more fair choosing the mod for epicmafia by the players of epicmafia
So its -1 votes or +1 votes with a reason why you downvote or upvote
This will highly stop mods suggesting only friends
A mod should be choosed by the players of epicmafia and not the mods themselves
Current template i thought up

i second single transferable vote, except leave the transfer of the vote totally dynamic, like, say, plussing and unplussing posts on the forums, and then mod whoever comes out with most votes. that way, the voting becomes actually sentient or something/votes account for or are relative to other votes, it doesn't all end up a big random mess
So, for instance, a basic Borda Count would work like this:
If the number of mods to be elected was 10, then each voter would choose 10 people, and rank them by who they wanted to be a mod the most.
To get the total, you'd just take the number of times a candidate was listed as a first choice and multiply it by, say, 10, take the number of times they were listed as a second choice and multiply it by 9, and so on. At the end, all of these would be added up to get the candidate's total votes.

First choice: n Second choice: n-1 Third choice: n-2 ...r choice: n - (r - 1)
It really depends how you'd want to implement it. But typically, it just multiples the fact that the person was voted for by the ranking they were given by the voter.

That hasn't happened for a very long time, though.
@Vitacon I think you underestimate how annoyed people get someone screws up their report. Friendships can be broken on less!
if the mod that gets modded is bad and they don't improve after being corrected and helped many times just demod them and get someone new. :)

the thing is that in a popularity contest it's unlikely that the friends who voted for their other friend is going to care how that friend actually performs as a mod
the funny thing about this is there's literally no problem with how the mod process has been going for as long as I can remember (excluding Christopherz's short reign), just don't mod bad mods or secret mods and there's no problem
You know that actually gives more power to friendship groups, not less.

if a person receives a majority of votes to be modded they should be modded regardless of how the mods/admin feel about it. if they turn out to be bad they'll get negative reviews from the community and will get demodded and replaced :)

Before we go into the fine details and descriptions of each element in the election system, we should probably decide on some overarching elements:
- Do we want involvement of previous mods? - Should there be any elimination done by the admin/mods before the community votes? - Should the mods/admin have a final say after the votes have been tallied?
I feel like having those aspects in the voting would be a fair compromise. You wouldn't want someone like lilin becoming a mod just because everyone voted for them.
That's why I suggested a variation of the Borda Count system for voting. If there was someone the a lot of people knew would make a bad mod, they could rank them as one of the people who they think shouldn't be modded. When the votes would be calculated, even if someone had a lot of positive votes, a fair number of negative votes could prevent them from being modded.

trial mods would be best imo. works for other things groups/communities I'm part of.
isn't trial mods just mods on a 10-ft leash with surveilance? is there an actual difference from that and whatever new person gets the power with the current system?
Just don't change the admin. You can do whatever you want with the mods.
i agree

Really though, can we integrate a sort of Hunger Games-esque trial into it? Maybe we can have chatrooms of GOP style debates, and Survivor-style voting pacts and backstabs. Maybe even integrated Moderator Political Faction systems.
Entertainment for the masses, that's what we need.
