So basically, one huge issue this site has is simplicity for newer players. Upon joining an unranked game, which new players are forced to do, you face a couple different situations, all basically bad. You either join a game with a -ton of random roles that is a clusterfuck and scares the player away. Or you might join a game with a bunch of veterans who do stuff without an explanation which just confuses the new player, and likely drives them away. Or you join an unranked game with a bunch of other noobs who have no clue what they're doing and screw it up. In all situations, new players seem to have a tough road ahead of them. It's only the players who are smart and patient enough to learn about the site that will actually end up staying.
So, my proposal is this: Have a beginner lobby, where players are automatically sent to upon joining the site. There they can join one of the couple allowed setups (simple ones) and join a game. Simultaneously, the game will also have a couple of slots for veterans. Essentially, veterans with over 100 games played, may join the beginner lobby and join games. They can join the game, help the new players understand it, and so on. What do the veterans gain from it? Every 25 beginner games a veteran helps out in, they get 1 token (something along those lines)
This whole system encourages veterans to help out, helps new players understand the site, and I think it'd work. I want harsh critique. kThxBye
If this gets implemented, people will insult me with "go back to training lobby, ya scrub" again :-(

I think that Sims has a good point with competitive players. Most of them are actually really nice, but people with strong competitive streaks can get nasty in games. I think the idea suggested in this thread is a great one and can bring some good activity and revival to this community.

actually training lobby didn't work when we had more users, instead of people upgrading to the """better lobby""", people just stayed in training and it slowly killed the competitive lobby.
you could argue this is because the competitive element of epicmafia is obsolete now with so many tryhards either not caring or having left, but this isn't the thread for that
Training Lobby would work if we had 10 times the amount of players on this site and it was growing faster and faster. 10 simultaneous games during peak hours isn't all too much.
People forget that some new players (and some older ones) don't try in games, screw everything up, and make no attempt to inprove, I don't know about you guys but when I'm playing mafia and this happens I get irritated
Some old players get upset with newer players (for good and bad reasons) but there are a lot of times where newer players get upset at older ones too (for good and bad reasons). There are many kind people and many a-holes in each group of players, so to use the older more experienced players as (the only) scapegoat isn't fair, even if that's how it (generally) used to be
i'm going to speak personally and not for the mod team or anything, but I think your problem is with competitions in general and not competitive players in specific. i think you guys tend to forget that competitive players are real people and not some kind of hive mind where everyone tries to be as rude as possible
maybe I have a different view on it because the competition was a main part of why I used to come on here, but I think your issue is with the competitive mindset in general. once people start feeling like there's something at risk when you play a gold heart game, they're obviously going to start acting differently and taking the game more seriously. and that's completely okay. it's the nature of the game and the nature of competitions in general
a lot of competitive players are really nice people both on and off the site and it's really unfair and judgmental to assume a lot of them are "egotistical snobs." if you're not a competitive person, fine, but that's your problem, not everyone else's. just try to keep in mind that the people who play this game are actual people who, for the most part, aren't inherently mean
Good joke. Everyone who plays comp jerks off to their win statistics and you know it.

Don't forget a lot of veterans are actually rude as heeeeck and ridicule the newer players for being noobs. Yeah, I'm really gonna want to stay and play a game with a bunch of complacent snobs who don't care about anyone other than themselves and their inflated egos.
it's shocking that people still feel like this
People only feel this because the issue was never resolved, because it CAN'T be.
Amen thread solved, can people stop pretending like this isn't a problem pls
