New Roles

JonSnowalmost 8 years ago

Hello everyone! I would like to ask the people who are interested in this event to participate and contribute as much as possible.

In order for 2 new roles to be added to em, the community has to work together to refine the ideas that are going to be mentioned below. We have to collectively select 2 of the best ideas and make sure their version is the best one possible. The next step would be to come up with some sort of artwork for the selected roles. Lucid mentioned something about rewarding the users behind the artwork that would get selected in the end for those 2 roles.

Jack the Ripper (originally Hypocrite)

  • Jack the Ripper hates anyone who kills.
  • Jack the Ripper only wins when the game ends and all murderers are dead.
  • If Jack the Ripper receives a gun or knife and kills someone with it, he will not consider himself a murderer.
  • To Jack the Ripper, murderers are killing roles or any other player that has successfully eliminated someone else (shot, stabbed, blown up, etc.)
  • If a player survives one of these actions, Jack the Ripper will not consider the attacker a murderer. (~Jennings)

Cat Lady

  • Chooses one player every night. The player is instantly alerted that a cat is at their door. They have two options: Kill the cat, and let it go. If you kill the cat, you are roleblocked and the Cat Lady doesn't know who was visited. If you let it go, the Cat Lady learns your role.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Her)

Robinhood

  • Visits two people, taking all items from the first and giving them to the second (cannot visit self either way)
  • Action fails if trying to steal from a mafia
  • Sided with the village (~Torreador)

Vice President

  • If the president dies, takes their place
  • All townies immediately receive a message of their new president
  • Attends mafia meetings, and makes them anonymous
  • Cannot win if they are the vice president (~Alyssa)

Gossiper

  • Chooses one person every night.
  • Will see some whispers this person receives/makes.
  • Gossiper's action does not count as a visit.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Soluciones)

(revising) the Seer

  • Knows all mafia from the beginning of the game.
  • If lynched at the end of the game, the last mafia can guess who the Seer is for autowin.
  • If the Seer dies, they will appear as a random (non-mafia) role in the setup and their will will always be blank. If dead, the mafia can still attempt a guess to the Seer's identity at the end of the game.
  • If there are multiple Seers in a game, only one Seer will know the mafia at any given time.
  • If there are two mafias and multiple Seers, the knowledge of the mafias will be split between them.
  • Sided with the village. (~Shwartz99)

Whistleblower

  • Once per game can force someone to vote someone else. Vote cannot be OT'D if it is a hammer. Sided with maf (Will create more tension in selfing/hammering based setups (~Moldyches)

Soldier

  • If they are the last man standing against a single mafia or third party, the village wins.
  • Sided with the village. (~XFire)

PowerTown

  • Each night chooses a power role from the options provided to him. (the mods should determine the list)
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the village

PowerMafia

  • Each night chooses a mafia role from the list.
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the mafia

Interesting concept. I was thinking for my Mayor whoever gets elected gets a vest and a gun to prevent from being n1ed.

Goon

- Sided with the mafia.
- Does not meet with partners or know who they are.
- Partners do not know their identity either.
- At night all goons meet to recruit another person.
- Does not count toward mafia's majority win condition.
- If they try to convert a mafia or someone already in a group (mason, cult) they all die.

You forget how many setups have multiple bombs. Also, the Mafia shouldn't be told if they have found a bomb - making them unsure who is bomb and who isn't. And if there is a Demolition Man aswell they can literally spawn more bombs... just don't use the role in setups where the bombs are so pivotal?
Hm, no comp setups have multiple bombs. I'm only trying to get roles for comp.

Does it have to be 1:1?
It doesn't have to be exact, but I would say it needs to achieve the same thing in a game that miller does.

So taking VDLI for example - miller means that a vanilla mafia in the graveyard could be: the actual mafia, in which case you have one left to find; or the miller, in which case you have two to find. Only mafia knows which is which.

So to achieve a similar effect you'd have a mafia who appears vanilla to themselves, blue when lynched, and vanilla if shot by a gun.

Town would have to contend with the fact that they may have lynched a blue, giving mafia a little more leverage at potential lylo lynches.

Best bit is that this role could be tossed into almost any setup we currently have, and would hopefully promote caution among town.

I didn't like a lot of what was in that description, honestly.
Then go make up your own sandbox role that will render a key town PR useless in every setup.

Appears consigliere when killed *
Not reverse miller then

Idk I don't see differences between maf-sided miller and reverse miller so that has miller analogy imo.

I think you just revamp Consigliere to be

- Appears mafia to self
- Appears blue when lynched
- Appears mafia when killed
- Sided with mafia

Maybe it doesn't go to maf meetings too

Even if the bomb is a powerful role the Defuser won’t be told if they’ve defused the bomb.
Yes they will wtf

I put that in the great big role description I wrote for the role that i made up

Hi BearGuru

Also I would argue that more roles is something that would attract somebody to epicmafia in the first place so from a business perspective having more selections is better

Consigliere doesn't go to maf meetings though, it's fundamentally different from the reverse miller. consigliere also has to convert himself and is more tuned to larger setups where it can win with 2 other mafs whereas reverse miller would be a better fit for smaller setups. it's almost impossible to tune consigliere for a 7 or 8 man setup but reverse miller would excel in those smaller setups.

yeah sorry, we already have a pretty similar role in game :/

We shouldn't add something so similar.

Consigliere:

Appears to everyone as a villager
Does not attend mafia meetings
Can convert self to mafia once per game.
Sided with the mafia

or just Sympathiser?

i need to build reverse miller (needs better name) today lol
I’m still pretty sure that it’s basically identical to Consigliere.
