Closed roles in Main Lobby

SirAmelioabout 10 years ago

This will probably get a bunch of people trolling me and tons of downvotes, but eh, might as well give it a try.

Inspired by this thread and dooze's comment on it https://epicmafia.com/topic/78196

I suggest that we add closed roles in main. Why, you may ask, as it's the thing that Sandbox is known for.

It is. However, Sandbox is also known for being a lobby in which very few people actually cares about what happens and thus the games get full of trolls, and people that just dont play the game properly.

And there are quite a few people that would enjoy playing closed roles setups with a bit more of seriousness. people that don't think there is a strategy for closed roles setups cleary havent played them enough, as in the ocassional serious sandbox games that happen now and then, there is a lot of tactics, role knowing, and speculation people can do, and it actually can be quite interesting.

Closed roles can't be used in ranked games, so it wouldn't ruin the competition in any way.

Yes, I know not everyone takes games seriously in Main either if they are unranked, but in overall, the userbase here is more game-oriented than in sandbox.

People in main that just don't like closed roles games can just... not play closed roles games, so that wouldn't really be an issue either.

idk, i think its worth arguing about it, unless there is a specific reason why they are not a thing here that im missing, which could be.

peace

people who dont play closed role look at closed role, think aloud "that's too complex for me, it must be too complex for anyone"

that aside while i understand your arguments roadman, i think its also coming a bit too much of your personal preference for closed roles, when that wasnt really the point of the thread, as you can keep not playing closed roles games in main.

the ideas of having some fixes roles in a closed setup is a good one tho, im down for it, but i also want to play just regular closed roles setup in a more serious place... i havent played that much here lately admitedlly, but the times i did play, they were good enough, maybe with some newbies, but not many trolls, compared to sandbox anyways.

I'm saying that there is no room for skill cap to influence a game's outcome.
i think you mean theres no universal strategy everyone can use to get predictable outcomes because strategy is dynamic, which is something a lot of people cant grasp because theyre used to rigid strategies where you just do exactly the same thing every time and how well you play is based on how closely you can mirror the same playstyle
That is not that I'm saying at all.

Without limitations, skill cap becomes irrelevant at times.
i like my skills to not be capped

Has it not occurred to you that after four years on this site playing closed role, you're wrong because you've never played a closed role game where other people played the game?
no it hasnt
deleteddeletedabout 10 years ago
ian is right. there's literally zero interesting plays that deal in role manipulation. there's nowhere near enough complexity to this game, even closed roles, for that

there's literally one that i know of that's any way amusing, in sex and lies, where u get urself masoned as maf, hook one mason, kill the other, then lead next day

this game is about scumhunting, knowing people

Limitations are necessary for a setup to have sustained credibility for a competitive minded individual.
