I suggest that we add closed roles in main. Why, you may ask, as it's the thing that Sandbox is known for.
It is. However, Sandbox is also known for being a lobby in which very few people actually cares about what happens and thus the games get full of trolls, and people that just dont play the game properly.
And there are quite a few people that would enjoy playing closed roles setups with a bit more of seriousness. people that don't think there is a strategy for closed roles setups cleary havent played them enough, as in the ocassional serious sandbox games that happen now and then, there is a lot of tactics, role knowing, and speculation people can do, and it actually can be quite interesting.
Closed roles can't be used in ranked games, so it wouldn't ruin the competition in any way.
Yes, I know not everyone takes games seriously in Main either if they are unranked, but in overall, the userbase here is more game-oriented than in sandbox.
People in main that just don't like closed roles games can just... not play closed roles games, so that wouldn't really be an issue either.
idk, i think its worth arguing about it, unless there is a specific reason why they are not a thing here that im missing, which could be.
there arent enough people on this site to start a game if you kick people
rarely you get a game that just happens to have good players and those always turn out well when they actually happen because people are actually playing and using logic to determine guilt and likewise attempting to explain oneself and their claimed role in accordance with their actions, which mafia can do and has done
i remember one time i knew that mafia was cthulhud based on cthulhu being silenced and a vent was talking through their partner to claim tree; mafia had that out to fool town, but i likewise followed the trail to mafia. unfortunately town fell for it and we lost, but i suppose that disproves the notion of mafia not having a strategy and likewise of town not being able to figure it out
i mean it wouldn't be a merge of sandbox and train lobby
people would go to sandbox if they want a chiller, less serious enviroment, and go to main if they want ranked games or unranked but a bit more serious.
yeh but lucid would be more likely to give 6 MORE on top of the 6 possibilities, rather than making closed roles ranked altogether. as long as those setups werent allowed to be competitive.
i mean the thing is that multisetups are limited to 6 setups on one iirc, which is pretty limited compared to closed roles, and whether you make the 6 setups very different or very similar, it wouldn't be as good as closed roles setup
(if you make them very similar, itd just be a regular multisetup, if you make them too different, it'll be an easy enough setup to figure out by d1 with the probably death of a role plus knowing your own)
if you guys want to play more seriously, just be more like error and kick the garbo players or make threads asking people whos willing to be serious for these types of things. is it more effort? yes, but at the same time merging everything into one sounds terrible
i feel like a complex multisetup would suffice as a ranked closed roles replacement. iirc giga had one which was like "overturn to vdli" and it was confusing as balls but if there was a possibility to make it reasonably "surprising" it would be ok.. as long as everyone knew what they were getting into lol
ftr i still do not think training lobby players mesh with competitive players, therefore the "seasoned" sandbox players wouldnt mesh well with the absolute noobs in training who want to play closed roles unranked (when they look for "serious" plays)
Please refrain from making additional posts in this thread unless they follow a point-counterpoint format with regards to the topic at hand. I'm really getting sick of this.
These arent personal preferences. I'm telling you what is viable in a competitive environment. i enjoy sweet dreams, but mechanically it's devoid of much practicality.
i insist, we are not asking for competitive closed roles
