Blacklist Classic Mafia

deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago

Blacklisting fancy pants is a freaking awesome step that you just took, mods. However, classic mafia is mechanically the exact same setup

Please please follow through with the awesome decision you have partially made and destroy the scourge that has plagued us for years instead of just one head of the hydra. Compared to what was expected, fancy pants has died with very little commotion.

sonseray, beating your opinion into this guy won't work. you're going to have to actually explain the coinflip logic

I know that this might seem like a naive, simpleton, vegetable low class, noobish thing to say, but to most of us who play classic/fp, it's not a coinflip, it's a game. :PP

You don't play mafia though, you play flipping a coin

no, either 3/4 players win or 1/4 players win

Some people are bad at flipping coins, like if you take a penny and just set it on the counter and call it a coin flip
deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago
but do u care to admit what youre basically saying with this thread is "wah people dont play mafia the way i like?" would comp players complain if vdli or basic variant were blacklisted?

old players grew up playing 163 and DLYV, which are way more complex than FP, Classic and Coco's, which new players gravitate to and tend to stick with, because comp is such a 180 from what they were doing in reds. Blacklisting these setups (in theory) would cause people to gravitate to comp quality setups and foster a better learning environment. However, if you view red hearts as "a stepping stone to comp" or "casual mafia" will change your view on what should be allowed.

fp win rate is 53.something - 46.something . Classic is 51.something - 48.something so no, it's not a coinflip

it's a coinflip assuming mafia don't screw up. if mafia screw up, it's just a free and pointless win
deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago
just because there is roughly a 50/50 outcome does NOT make it an outcome.

By the same logic, you are calling Chess a coinflip, because it's usually 50/50 outcome as well.

Okay, it is a game in the same way anything where you have exactly a 50% chance of winning is. Like flipping a coin.
deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago
Classic was designed for real life mafia where you actually have to do things before you NL or vote a cop cc, like have a poker face.

You know what the most incredible thing about this site is? Sometimes, people play mafia just for fun!
How is flipping a coin fun? I don't need the internet to do that, but if I did use the internet I bet I could find a trillion other websites to do it
You're the only one here really advocating that classic is a coinflip.

And you know what, maybe to you, it is.

But there's a reason why people play classic, on EM and outside the websites...because to most casual players, it's interesting and fun :)
It's mathematically the same as flipping a coin. It's not my opinion, it is a fact.
It's not a coinflip.

It's a *game*

the thing of it is, not everybody likes fancy setups where you can risk an ML and etc, sometimes people just like classic stuff. i find more fun in games like sitd or gallis hunter or fp, than i have in most ranked setups, because quite frankly comp people try too flipping hard and they're annoying as they do it. in the end why does it even matter to other ppl, just let people have fun their way. im sure you'd be crying and whining if they blacklisted bv or whatever darling comp setup there is.
