my psychologist told me everyone needs to vent sometimes and there is so much anger and bottled emotion I sense on this site so I thought i should start a thread so how is everyone feeling is everyone OK
well, the issue might be in the assumption that they have a goal other than helping you understand your feelings. from my experience, they literally ask you what your goals are as opposed to trying to set an agenda. im sure there are therapists out there that are manipulative in that way, though
if you don't have any problems you're just going there to talk and waste your money but if you have something to work on then they have a goal and try to guide you to a certain point. it doesn't matter if you're walking on your own there's still a carrot in front of your nose
without irony, i think it would be beneficial for most people, if they have the means to get it, to go to therapy/counseling of some kind. there's nothing wrong with wanting to feel better.
if you're not feeling therapy, i also suggest something called mindfulness meditation. it sounds kind of silly at first, but for anxiety, it can be really useful to delve into.
of course there's something wrong with it. all it is is asking someone to tell you what to think. it's like taking psych meds. it's giving yourself an artificial personality
in my experience, it's more like the therapist tries to ask you specific questions or bring up ideas so that you can work out your own thoughts, but every therapist is different, i'm sure.
regular therapy for anxiety/depression/any other issues is beneficial for most people though, i think
depends on the therapist? and person?
i mean, some therapists are better than others, some people probably need to switch around therapists until they find one that fits for them.
but in general, i think someone having a confidential outlet to work out/talk out their issues and deal with them is a beneficial thing for the majority of people to do.

Therapy may have its benefits but as someone who has tried grief therapy, let me assure you that it is an absolute crock of sh.it. A therapist can talk you through the pretend problems in your head but they can't make someone less dead.
i don't have any personal experience with grief therapy so i can't comment on whether or not it is effective for people or not. i think grief is something that might be able to be lessened with therapy, but it would definitely still remain regardless
