This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.
Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.
Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.
NOTE: If you're here to complain about Sandbox moderation or the site mods, please don't.
I didn't name every single role. I just pointed out the ones I believe could be interesting and then gave them names. I don't think Wiretapper or Operative are based on existing roles and you just went ahead and downvoted them too (probably without reading them). If they are, lmk, I made all of these like literally more than a year ago.
Meathead. Caporegime. Undertaker. Goon. Why are they good roles? How does it change the gameplay?
Because you can make new setups using them? Yeah they may be useless for the regular Sandbox setup or some of the setups you're used to playing, but it doesn't mean they can't have their own setups that can be interesting.
You can make new setups using every role suggested in this thread, but not all of the suggestions deserve to be official roles.
What makes these roles unique? How are they going to change gameplay?

Sometimes simple ideas like making a maf-sided or town-sided version of a role should have already been implemented. Just because it's "easy" doesn't mean it's stupid or bad.
Sure, but not every single role that is sided with the village needs a mafia counterpart or vice versa.

if you prefer, we could call overseer a weak invisible man because seeing what's being discussed doesn't actually catch anyone
Overseer can definitely catch someone, it's just that they can't choose a specific person to listen to at night. People say all sorts of stuff in their meetings that can be detrimental to their game, the role would work very different to that of an invisible man despite their purpose being to listen to night meetings.
Back to Paladin (Harpy), the only similarity is that they both have to guess who is going to be attacked that night. Monk saves that person, but the Harpy puts another person in harm's way and completely changes the dynamic of the game if they can guess who the mafia or any other killing role is targeting. I think this is a good role to implement.

Is it time for an official Battlesnakes Lobby? I nominate Ohdearmycatisgone for owner.
