This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.

Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.

Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.

That sounds good to me, it's intended to be a non-hostile third so it works.

I could see it being used in a few Reverse Mafia setups in the place of traitors, too.

Also, this would pair well with Ohdearmycatisgone's suggestion for having the name of the third party player appear alongside their win message.


This could work really well with survivor lobby as well

Delegate seems overpowered.

Assuming 1 person dies each night day one you get your target lynched by faking a report and then day 2 the mafia has +2 votes and the town has -1. In a 12 player setup that would be 5 mafia votes to 6 non mafia votes

With the new music Fred has created, I wouldn't mind some Party Music for Night or another suggestion I saw in the first few pages where the Party Host has the choice of music via YouTube or wherever.

Oh, I just had an idea that makes Journalist and Pathologist more useful:


Maf-sided role (no idea of name):
-Has a meeting where chooses 1 person
-That person will be unable to see system messages the following day and night.
-This includes death messages, item receiving messages, anarch bomb messages, role information (including lover and cupid messages), autocrat/mastermind presence messages, interceptor/trapper reveal message, etc.
- Does not attend mafia meetings. May choose a mafia.

Especially in non-closed setups, this could make pathologist and journalist more useful, because while the target can't see system messages, they still would receive them and so journalist and pathologist could see them.

Hey Lucid, do you remember the Seer?

It was talked about a lot in Sims's last thread about adding new roles. The gist of the role was that it knew all of the mafia at the start of the game and the mafia could guess who it is to try to kill it. There was a lot of talk about tweaking and revising it, and I think you said you built it at some point but didn't add it, and so it was left forgotten but still built into the roleimg.

Since we've had a lot of changes to whispers and now have two new whisper-related roles, I think that you should consider re-implementing it.

Here's the revision I'd give it:

- Knows all mafia from the beginning of the game.
- If lynched at the end of the game, the last mafia can guess who the Seer is for autowin.
- If the Seer dies, they will appear as a random (non-mafia) role in the setup and their will will always be blank. If dead, the mafia can still attempt a guess to the Seer's identity at the end of the game.
- If there are multiple Seers in a game, only one Seer will know the mafia at any given time.
- If there are two mafias and multiple Seers, the knowledge of the mafias will be split between them.
- Sided with the village.

I think this answers all of your old concerns about the Seer, just tell me if any new ones arise.

Like I said, I think the Seer would be great with the new whispers, since it'd have to be very subtle with chasing down the mafia and couldn't just claim to a clear. It'd be very cool to see in competitive games and I'm sure it'd see use in Sandbox too.

Mole:
-Sided with the town
-Mole will die immediately if attacked, can't be saved by vests or docs or monks or anything
-Attends mafia meetings but can't see names, like an invisible man. Mafia also can't see the moles name.
-Mafia are aware of the mole, a line of red text will say so like 'There appears to be a mole among you' just in case
-Mafia will have to not say any names and be careful about revealing their roles or plans or whatever
-Moles biggest objective is to try and recognize the mafia by the manner in which they talk, and in turn mafia can pretend to type in the style of someone else to throw mole off. Like if someone in the game uses the :doge: face all the time, the mole might recognize that or the mafia might pretend to be this dogefan, or the dogefan might really be the mafia and keep typing doge as usual to trick the mole into thinking he's pretending to be the dogeman even though he really is (but he's not (but he is))
-Mole has to wonder when it's safe to out himself as the mole because maferino will kill them for sure, and the mole can't be saved. mole might be more useful if he keeps hindering the mafia by just being there
-all whispers leak at mafia meetings if a mole is there


I like it, it's like it. It's less random than invisible man but balanced by the fact that it can only work for mafia meetings and they know that its there so there's potential for counterplay

~Spider
- Each night, one random visitor will be caught in the spider's web
- The visitor will be roleblocked and unable to vote the following day
- If someone is caught, the spider gains a meeting the following day with two options - eat and release.
- If eat, the spider kills the player.
- If release, the player is freed.

I'm thinking this could be a town role, but maybe to make things more interesting, the player would be 'janned' and only the spider would learn the role if the spider decides to eat them.


Ostrich
- Each night, lays an egg and gives it to a player.
- This egg has a chance to hatch starting the following day - the chance increases each half day.
- If unhatched, the holder may pass the egg to another player
- When the egg hatches, a random action occurs to the holder
~The egg has hatched. It was a rotten egg! You are poisoned.
~The egg has hatched! You find a gun inside.
~Etc
-Sided with the town

Frog
-Picks a player each night and automatically learns that player's role (think gambler, Frog can't change players)
-Once a player is picked, Frog has the option to swallow (steal) the role
-If the role is stolen...Town turns to villager, Maf turns to traitor, and 3rd party turns to amn
-Wins if he survives
-Sided with the 3rd party

Vampire (not an animal, I know)
-Picks a player each night to take control of
-This player retains their role, but shares an additional maf meeting with vampire (and any other players under vampire's control) for the rest of the game
-Every player under Vampire's control dies if Vampire dies
-Vampire wins if he survives
-Sided with the 3rd party


Pls suggestions if you have any. I'm just throwing ideas out there to see if anything sticks.
