Hello everyone! I would like to ask the people who are interested in this event to participate and contribute as much as possible.
In order for 2 new roles to be added to em, the community has to work together to refine the ideas that are going to be mentioned below. We have to collectively select 2 of the best ideas and make sure their version is the best one possible. The next step would be to come up with some sort of artwork for the selected roles. Lucid mentioned something about rewarding the users behind the artwork that would get selected in the end for those 2 roles.
Jack the Ripper (originally Hypocrite)
Jack the Ripper hates anyone who kills.
Jack the Ripper only wins when the game ends and all murderers are dead.
If Jack the Ripper receives a gun or knife and kills someone with it, he will not consider himself a murderer.
To Jack the Ripper, murderers are killing roles or any other player that has successfully eliminated someone else (shot, stabbed, blown up, etc.)
If a player survives one of these actions, Jack the Ripper will not consider the attacker a murderer.
(~Jennings)
Cat Lady
Chooses one player every night. The player is instantly alerted that a cat is at their door. They have two options: Kill the cat, and let it go. If you kill the cat, you are roleblocked and the Cat Lady doesn't know who was visited. If you let it go, the Cat Lady learns your role.
Sided with the mafia. (~Her)
Robinhood
Visits two people, taking all items from the first and giving them to the second (cannot visit self either way)
Action fails if trying to steal from a mafia
Sided with the village (~Torreador)
Vice President
If the president dies, takes their place
All townies immediately receive a message of their new president
Attends mafia meetings, and makes them anonymous
Cannot win if they are the vice president (~Alyssa)
Gossiper
Chooses one person every night.
Will see some whispers this person receives/makes.
If lynched at the end of the game, the last mafia can guess who the Seer is for autowin.
If the Seer dies, they will appear as a random (non-mafia) role in the setup and their will will always be blank. If dead, the mafia can still attempt a guess to the Seer's identity at the end of the game.
If there are multiple Seers in a game, only one Seer will know the mafia at any given time.
If there are two mafias and multiple Seers, the knowledge of the mafias will be split between them.
Sided with the village. (~Shwartz99)
Whistleblower
Once per game can force someone to vote someone else. Vote cannot be OT'D if it is a hammer. Sided with maf
(Will create more tension in selfing/hammering based setups (~Moldyches)
Soldier
If they are the last man standing against a single mafia or third party, the village wins.
Sided with the village. (~XFire)
PowerTown
Each night chooses a power role from the options provided to him. (the mods should determine the list)
Night meeting goes accordingly
Sided with the village
PowerMafia
Each night chooses a mafia role from the list.
Night meeting goes accordingly
Sided with the mafia

What is your favorite role mentioned in this thread?
Give families some sort of private group chat and show what family users are a part of on their clickable profile. For example, in-game when you click on a user, you see their points, title, name, win/loss pie, etc. Show their family to allow easy access and encourage heavier use.
Private chats give people a real reason to be part of a family and also you're able to steer attention away from Discord servers and other chats.
yes! i don't quite remember how it went, but i remember playing secret hitler and just thinking it was so brilliant. Sigh, the stuff i wasn't able to think of
could just have it so there's a new game mode, and village meeting is replaced with another for voting people to go on the mission. during the night, those people vote on mission passing or failing. i keep a counter, set a new win condition. simple
1.) Assuming you currently have not done so yet, sit down and join a Discord voice chat or text server with all administrators and moderators and discuss rule enforcement - how you want it, the punishments, etc. This website is in constant debate about rules and punishments and it would be great if you thoroughly discussed these. Your energy has been focused on role building and stuff so far that you haven't really put energy toward this. Maintaining that communication and trust is so vital to website development and we've all lacked that in the last few years.
2.) Improve moderator tools. From being a moderator a few times, the team relied on multiple third party services from Foxie, Arcbell, etc. If you were able to implement these, the mod team could potentially be more transparent, swift, and efficient. (Another thing you can sit down with the administrators and talk about).
Also, lucid, you did not say anything about #1 or #2 but are essentially the two most important things to the health and maintenance of your website.
What do you say about improving moderation and catering to their needs?
yea, lemme know how i could build any role to complement seer related setups. seer is basically first step into resistance mechanic
The big thing right now is maybe just building a Resistance gamemode. Most roles from Resistance already have their counterparts and the ones we're missing specifically involve the missions-to-vote-on mechanic that's key to Resistance.
in all seriousness an overhaul on the families system would probably be welcome. could even just add some extra features behind pay walls, rack in dat $$$.
Basic white lady name. But I think it's a cool game mechanic with a lot of possibilities. Sharon could invite a mafia to brunch accidentally, and mafia might claim they are the REAL Sharon.
That's also a great direction to take the game in. Anything that can be done to shift EM's paradigm should be done. Graveyard/undead roles will basically spin off and take a life of their own (no pun intended) just because it's such a big change.
whistleblower and gossiper have such low vote counts tho, are they worth building?
I think they're worth it, roles that mess with votes and whispers are both very needed and very lacking on the site.
In response to MisterPresident's comment: I don't think building roles necessary helps the site grow, I think building the right roles helps. Sure a lot of the roles so far are just for fun, but something like Seer or Medium or the discussed 21RB idea will grow the site by expanding the scope of Mafia.
If I were in Lucid's shoes, I would focus most of my efforts on building a Resistance clone within the Mafia engine. Resistance is currently one of the most popular card game mafia variants, and I've yet to see an effective online adaptation. Combining Resistance with EM's modular engine and myriad of roles opens up a whole new world of possibilities. If coordinated with the mods to promote Resistance-based setups alongside the current setups used in competitive, word would get out that there's a website to simulate Resistance and even play it for sport, bringing in a whole boat of new users who haven't even played a mafia variant outside of Resistance.
Grow the site's fanbase by growing the site. Everyone wins.
