That's a lot of recs guys, I'm probably gonna end up trimming off some of them or keeping them for the long run
Rondarabout 10 years ago
I'm going to go ahead and take those too. Some of them seem really cool!

Since we're doing recommendations:

Silent Light (2007)
The Hole (1998)
Orpheus (1950)
Spirit of the Beehive (1973)
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (2003)
You, the Living (2007)
The Double Life of Veronique (1991)

These are all super good, especially if you're after something a bit different.

Oh Annie Hall is on your list too. I liked it a lot, but it's been quite a while since I've seen it. Remember it being a bit slow at parts, but ultimately pretty funny and surprisingly nuanced.

It is! Beautiful movie, moved me to tears. The dancing scene and the final shot on the train are two of my favorite moments from Asian film (and any film really!). Kar-Wai has an unmatched ability to concentrate and anchor every main emotion of a movie into a single, infinitely vibrant and perfectly timed shot.

Rondar
Happy Together (1997),
yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! For some reason this one never gets brought up with Wong Kar-Wai but it's easily one of his best.

here we GO

Off what I've seen from your list, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Being John Malkovich and Short Term 12 would be my priories (in that order), they're some of my favorites. The Artist and Moneyball would be next, then Insomnia and A Beautiful Mind (for some great acting). The Curious Case of Benjamin Button's pretty cute too. Nice long movie when you're looking for a bit of relaxation, not too challenging (pretty sad though). Inside Man is a lot of fun as well.

my own recommendations:

Go Asian with:
Mother (2009)
Chunkging Express (1994)
Happy Together (1997), Rashomon (1950)
...and when you're ready
In The Mood for Love

Go animated with:
The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2014)
The Wind Rises (2014)
Millennium Actress (2000)

...and two shorts:
Paperman (2013) and Father and Daughter (2000)
