They would actually. This is why a lot of games did so well prior to the huge competitive releases. Ladders were reset at certain points in the year and everyone had a renewed interest. if you're competing to cement a top spot with the opportunity to maintain it, you place way more stock in the competition and your own ability. Whilst things are as they are now, each and every trophy or point earned just joins the fodder of illegitimate or disjointed statistics and values.
And lol people have been saying the "trophies haven't mattered in X years" since the beginning of time. You got comments like that in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, now in 2016, and you'll get more of them in 2017.
To explain what I mean when I say you are making my point for me Trilobite: If it is so easy to get 60%+ in comp with this player base, why is it that nobody can beat the record winrates set years ago?
The answer is that it is harder.

soben and maxwell used just run and win gold pretty much because they'd decided to run. it was pretty impressive to watch
I still reckon all stats should be wiped fresh. People would actually care about playing, if only for a short while, and then lists like these might actually have some substance to them.
