Cheating across multiple games in competitive mafia incurs an instant 4 month lobby ban and ineligibility to trophy for 8 months.
Cheating across multiple games in ranked (red heart) games incurs a one week lobby ban.
In both instances a cheating 1st violation is given.
Maximum ban duration
The maximum ban length is now 3 months in all normal cases of rule breaking. The mod team reserves the right to issue longer bans for particularly malicious behavior, such as OPI and posting X-rated content. Violations lengths have not changed. If you're wondering how this works, read the following.
For violations that last up to 3 months, nothing changes.
For violations up to 6 months, the ban is applied for 3 months and then lifted. The user will have N violations where N is the number required for a ban, but will be unbanned. Upon receiving another violation of the same type, he will be banned for another 3 months. When the second ban expires, the user can have at most N-1 violations of this type and things are normal.
Violations longer than 6 months will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
These changes are a shift to a more reformational, correctional way of enforcing rules. In particular, giving users who have cheated in red heart games a week to reflect on their actions feels a lot more reasonable to us than an immediate half-year ban. When it comes to shorter ban durations, the idea is that most people view 3 months or longer as simply "a long period of time," and are not disincentivized from breaking the rules because they will be banned for 6 months rather than 3 months.
We believe that these changes will lead to lower bypassing rates and less cheating on the site.

tbh its not encouraging cheating its encouraging licking mod a**. some people get vios for decent, possible mistakes while blantant cheaters and hc users gets unbanned as 'mods discretion' and 'admins desicion'. but thats not bc they are cheating, thats bc they are mod friends/lickers.
and since its an online platform i dont think there is much you can do about evaders, except making being an experienced user a nice thing like you get color text at 10k points etc. so that they might care.
as if cheaters serve their ban. They hardly stop playing for a day. They just evade on other accounts. You guys are just making it easier for them. This is like encouraging cheating.
I have never cheated, but have been treated like a cheater by every mod team that has ever existed. Ironic? I suppose that if I were a cheating mod, I wouldn't allow the biggest non-cheater in the mod team either, it'd ruin my trophy chances. And I wouldn't think that the mod team was a bunch of cheating idiots, if I hadn't seen it for years in comp and seen other mods confirm it time and time again.

"FML, I am thinking about going on a massive cheating spree and then hacking the hell out of the site, I don't think I'll get caught, cause the site won't even exist when I am done." That is the line of thinking from people here who don't give a f.
um, people don't care about the ban much less a time period of a ban, seriously, when people cheat they don't even think they will get caught. This line of thought is great, it really is, if punitive measures actually worked or meant anything at all here.
