Dethy: Should it be Comped?

LeMeJoeover 10 years ago

Friends of EM, I come to you with a simple request:

Due to the arbitrary rules assigned to what can and can't be a comp setup, my favorite setup, dethy, will never be able to be one.

Although there are other setups that DIRECTLY and SPECIFICALLY break certain rules of comp setups, they are still allowed. (For instance, quite a few comp setups break the rule of having a win ratio within the parameters, https://epicmafia.com/topic/60963)

The main argument people have against dethy is that it is a townsided setup with too few players. The latter can be discarded immediately. If it's a game of length you're looking for, some dethys can go on for quite a while if the reports don't line up well enough.

The former is a bit harder to explain, but I'll do my best.

It only looks townsided due to the win % breakdown. This is mainly due to new people who play and roll mafia not knowing how to create false reports. This, however, would not be a problem in comp, because everyone who would play would have the knowledge to do so. In addition, there is only one situation in which it is impossible for the mafia to win, in the grand scheme of things. If you're an adept enough player, you can wiggle out of any other.

Thus, I propose either the allowance of dethy as a comp setup, or, perhaps, a rewrite of what can be considered a "comp setup" altogether.

If you feel similar, please sign. I'd like to have an actual discussion, because this is a pretty important topic to me, and one that would get me more involved in comps altogether.

Dethy should take the place it deserves as a comp setup on EM.

dethy is one of my favorites but I don't think comping it is a good idea.
deleteddeletedover 10 years ago
the meta of the setup is for 40% of the game to have zero participation whatsoever because you instant NL d1.

also it's extremely townsided if you know what you're doing.

joining a game with a 1/5 chance to have absolutely no impact on the game doesn't sound like a fun idea to me either

The first of the parameters you posted:

https://epicmafia.com/topic/60963

is 7-10 players. Dethy has 5.

GG

Also agree with Ethereal and others, it's just sorting out the claims and most of the time a 50-50 hammer on 3way, not that deep of a setup for comp. Would end being townsided in comp too.

I think I'd consider dethy if people were not allowed to NL in the game.

i'd talk about how it's in no way competitively viable but the same could be said about half the **** that gets any play in comp. u have my support lemejoe

How come they aren't then, and we're stuck with the same boring setups comp after comp?
SIowrollover 10 years ago
Nothing wrong with dethy as a setup, but I think there are better setups out there that should be comped instead.

Dethy will never ever be comped. There is no scumhunting. All that the setup is is figuring out cop reports and then usually hammering a 50/50. Sometimes town has autowin because cops figure out reports and confirm the mafia with no skill at all. Not to mention it's 56% townsided.

The only setups that should not be comped are bl'ed setups tbh. All other setups require some degree of knowledge on how to play and most include scumhunting, like dethy does on D2.

It only has 5 people, there's little to no basis for scumhunting in it and it's incredibly easy to cheat in. This is also why Classic/FP and variants are also banned from being Competitive (aside from the 5 players). You'd basically be comping three-way lylo.
