Ok so im 2 days in here and I gotta say, this place is reeeeaally hard to learn. People are crazy unforgiving and not many people want to give help.
Everyone yells at the noob for taking too long or wrong decision. Seriously, the more you yell and hurry, the more chance they will panic vote and get it wrong.
Like Gerry and Pam said, mentor / mentee program is one way of improving (and I suggest it too, there are great mentors, suitable for every specialized aspect of the game: towntelling / scumhunting / pr-hunting etc...)
But it's not the only one, obviously :)
1) Time.
You can't think after 3 games you will have learned everything. Obviously the first games will introduce you to the basic terms and concepts in the game, the purposes of the 2 sides and the basic roles. Fundamentally, that's all. The rest will come with ***time***
2) Your Experience.
Following that same line, the more you play, the more experience you get, the better you will be at the game (because you will know more about the game, the roles, the players - if you play with some over and over - and more)
3) Other people's Experience
Other people, who already played/play EM (short for epicmafia), have made guides on how to play this game "better". You can find them here:
There might be more, in that case I don't know them.
Anyway, it's important to remember different people ***play*** differently and ***learn*** differently, so if you feel one of those guides is working for you, cool, if you feel nothing of those is working, a mentor is probably your way to go: ask for what you want to improve and the mentor team will try to select the one that fits best with it + time zone + availability.
don't worry when i become a mentor in 15 years i will teach u how to be the best jstace ᕙ( : ˘ ∧ ˘ : )ᕗ

If you want to play legit unranked then make an unranked game of classic or Fancy Pants. If you join one with a ton of different roles you need to realize that they are made 100% purely for fun and to mess around.
Also, PM me if you would like some help. I'm not mentoring but I'd be willing to give you some tips.

Noobs cant even learn on unranked since they are full of social patheticos who : -Dont shoot their friends even if they are Mafs - GT for fun for exemple: outing the mafs if the person isnt with her friends & suiciding because its unranked. -Dont try at all to play and says that its unranked. - Spam chat with some really useless stuff : im going to met my bf , My car is broken , Dont talk to me like that , i do whatever i want " Big up for Ashleymarie. including the smiley spammers. - Kill n1 /Troll/Ignore Noobs and Noavis. -You will be considered as "Annoying and tryhard " If you try to play normally. And the list is still Long..
So Yeah, You wont learn/Improve and when you try ranked games you will get reported for doing mistakes.

I'm not entirely willing however, to be cussed out and verbally abused for slow game play that is probably second nature to the regulars.
Just walk alway from the screen haha just ignore it haha
I mean, I got used to it so it's just another part of playing. Other people might not have that same mentality however, and be bothered to a great extent.

True true, time and a good mentor will do the trick!
I'm completely willing to be destroyed in games, and learn from those losses. I'm not entirely willing however, to be cussed out and verbally abused for slow game play that is probably second nature to the regulars. It's not a matter of asking to be spoonfed, it's more just basic sportsmanship that should be present in any game. If you were playing a sport in real life, you wouldn't keep trash talking who wanted to try out the sport right?
Also, ranked games are obviously the way to go if you want to learn as fast as you can. Learning in unranked is a lot slower, and it's hard to get in good quality games because you'll most likely be playing with other inexperienced players as well. How do you expect the new players to get good when that level of play is likely to be lower?
Well people can't learn in unranked anyway, Almost nobody plays serious in them. Best way to get booted is to pm people and ask them help or get mentors.
Thank you for posting this. I'm happy to hear it wasn't just me. I kept asking for help and no one would help me to know where to go to learn more. Finally, after being reported someone told me.
https://epicmafia.com/topic/74705 Here is the link to sign up for a mentor. They can help =]
Because they're totally available in every timezone.
Jstace, for me in my personal experience, the learning curve was crazy steep, but I got it all (at least in fp and G&S) by the time I played 50 games, at which point it was about 15 wins to 35 losses. A few months later, and we're here. I'm talking about a previous, forgotten account btw.
Reno, yes I lynched naked cop. But it was honestly a mistake. Everyone was yelling at me and I mixed up cop with cop vote.
Which is exactly my point. Getting crazy angry doesn't help a noob (or anyone really). And it's quite hard to tell who's yelling because they are mafia and who's yelling cos they are annoyed town.
Yes, completely my fault for lynching cop. But being a bit more friendly would actually help everyone by lowering the chances of a noob mistake.
