site meta (or more accurately, community meta) exists in every mafia community and is unavoidable.

particular actions being tied to particular alignments are what is really at fault.

Like Anthony just said, it depends who you're appealing your "towniness" to. However, more often than not, I've seen people be insta-lynched for not "voting with the clear".

Like Anthony just said, it depends who you're appealing your "towniness" to. However, more often than not, I've seen people be insta-lynched for not "voting with the clear".

Chainsawing isn't even close to being a decent play anymore because, last I checked, site meta's established that it's actually a scumtell to sidestep a majority lynch and put your own vote up. It's also just as easy to casually throw out your opinion by saying something like "Well I don't agree with lynching player X at all and I think we should lynch player Y today instead, but whatever." and still throw up your vote on X. Could be wrong though.

I disagree. If you dont know how to read a saw, that's your call - and you're probably with the majority. Despite that, it is possible to townread a saw.

I'm not saying that it isn't a possibility to townread it, I'm saying that the majority of the site simply doesn't.

a more accurate definition of chainsawing is:

defending a player who is likely to get lynched, without the real intention of preventing the lynch, in order to look like you are/were on their side.

a good chainsaw is done by looking like you tried and failed to defend someone

this doesn't deny the very plausible strategy of PRs chainsawing their scumreads in order to survive the night.
