I am a new player seeking help to get better at the game. Reading some of the earlier threads of this forum I've noticed that people say playing fancy pants / classic will NOT prepare you for competitive play (gold hearts), but unfortunately those modes are the only 2 modes simple enough for me to understand, on top of that I have a hard time being evil roles in the game.
Does anyone have any "transitional" setups for someone coming out of fancy pants / classic and can anyone lend tips for evil roles? Thanks.
Whoever said it was less about setups and more about players is partially right, but that's not all there is too it.
Literally ANY setup with an ml will train you better for competitive play. (Having an ml means that lynching wrong once won't lose town the game.)
The only competitive setup I can think of without an ml is basic logic, and that setup isn't played very often anyway so there's no reason to prepare yourself for it. (Especially as it uses the almost-phased-out whispers)
Another method to improve is to reread the games of a player you perceive as 'good', or 'what you want to become'. I did this way more than most users when I was learning the game, and it definitely benefited my play a lot.
The real reason classic is terrible is that the entire game hinges on the cop cc 90% of the time, and because of that it only teaches you to read inbetween two people directly counterclaiming each other instead of reading within a group of people, which is much much harder. Cheers.
Its less about the setups you play and more about the people you play with. Play with strong or talkative players, and talk more yourself. Even if talking gets you lynched, you'll learn what exactly you said got you lynched (unless your playing with bad players who lynch you for being too active or something).
Play around in sandbox if you don't understand some rolls. You don't need to understand every one of them, just the common ones.
It is statistically the most balanced setup of all time and helps to train players in playing as a clear, townsperson, or mafia in various situations and contexts while being relaitvely simple to grasp. It is often used in competitive play and has been enjoyed for years by newbies and more experienced players alike.
there is a mentor mentee program just pick a mentor and start learning away.
also those people that say that are wrong and u shouldn't listen to them i mean look at me i played a ton of fancy pants and im one of the bestp layers in the game so play whatever you want if u are unsure about something there are a TON of guides in the site to help u
I learned it all by playing a buttload of sandbox games that just forced me to learn how a lot of stuff works / being comfortable with how stuff works. Franky every set up is pretty different and you just gotta learn them one at a time. Once you understand FP/Classic, you could easily move up to something like Jan 2.0.
