Anthony as a Mod

deletedabout 10 years

Anthony is a good guy, an amazing player, and probably a good mod. However, I think it's important to enforce a no-tolerance approach on cheaters as mods.

Must have been inactive when that happened.

You think he'd have been less successful if he never became moderator? Got caught in a month or less iirc

I wrote it after reading peta's comment tbh, that was surprising

Mana says

I can name a few who have.

Became mods in order to cheat? In EM 3.0+? And you think it helped them more than spending the same effort on actually improving cheating skills?

I never said mods can't cheat, just that telling someone that they can never become moderator won't stop them from cheating. More likely the opposite.

gerksterr,

Nobody can seriously think that if someone's intention is to cheat again, they should focus their efforts on becoming a moderator.

that was a very good post

I belong to the tiny minority (of one?) who do(es)n't like Anthony as a person, but what the hell is the angle of people who think former cheaters should never be allowed to moderate?
I can think of 2 reasons. Prevent them from cheating again, and make an example for potential future cheaters. Is there another?

-In general, former cheaters have a slightly increased probability to do it again, but lifelong moderation ban won't prevent anyone from cheating in the future. Being a mod might have advantages, but also has downsides for a cheater (RoughNightBro). Nobody can seriously think that if someone's intention is to cheat again, they should focus their efforts on becoming a moderator.

-Maybe 0.01% of potential cheaters end up cheating after they see that a former cheater can become moderator, but think of people who got caught previously and have moderator ambitions. I'm sure everyone with a considerable time spent on the site knows such people who actually make Epicmafia more fun to play. There is a far greater percentage of them who will cheat again/become trolls/or at least care less because of this rule.

-This is not a punishment for cheaters in general, this is a punishment for people who didn't put enough effort into cheating and got caught. For one example, it takes very little effort to get a private proxy and set up a virtual machine. If someone cheats, say, 5 of their own games every competition that way (using different alts), and trolls/vegs a few top competitor games in the final days, how the hell is anyone going to catch them? A fair amount of cheaters never get caught, this trophy system just makes it easy.

-Anthony in particular will most likely be a far better moderator than the majority of former moderators who were never accused of cheating, I didn't see anyone anywhere doubt that.

So what is the actual point of this thread?
deletedabout 10 years
prison and public schools are similar because both have yards and central heating.

The goal of the Epicmafia forums and the 4chan forums are exactly the same: Amuse yourself, at the expense of everyone else.
deletedabout 10 years
i guess i'm dumb for not seeing the striking resemblance.

Slow says

epicmafia and 4chan aren't even remotely similar.

Literally lol'd, you're dumb.
