I love EM a lot, but I feel Main Lobby has lately grown sort of stale. This is because of a bunch of reasons I won't get into, but what this has caused is an addiction to simple set ups like Fancy Pants and Coco's that pretty much crowd and spam the lobby wall. If you go to the main lobby page right now, and click back to the past 10 pages, 90% of ranked games that have been played have either been fancy pants, cocos set up, or guns and hookers.
The Problem -----While I recognize that these set ups have their place in the community, and that they are a good for beginners, this fixation on FP and Cocos is bad for the community because it decreases the diversity of set ups played, discourages an environment for trying new things (like trying different set ups or creating your own), and creates a gap between experienced players and new players.
My Proposal Here -----I understand that outright blacklisting these set ups is not the solution, as it would just drive people away or make people stick to unranked games, and is unfair for those who legitimately enjoy FP. Therefore, I propose that a good compromise is to limit red hearts to 10 a day, (renewed by 5 every 24 hours) and to create a third heart system separate from gold hearts and red hearts: purple hearts! (they don't have to be purple lol) These purple hearts would be limited to 10 a day as well, and would pretty much be the same as red hearts. The only difference is, these purple hearts would disallow playing Fancy Pants, Coco's, and all those sorts of set ups. This would allow players to play their regular games of FP and Cocos each day, but then also encourage them to try new set ups in Purple heart games.
I know this idea isn't perfect, but I think it's better than the current system we have now, and wouldn't be that difficult to implement. It would create a 4 step stage from unranked to comp, and would overall help to make a more interesting site. Sign the petition if you agree!
Edit: I'm okay with not slashing the amount of red hearts people can play with. If you see the petition below, it states only to add a third system of hearts that would ban fancy pants and give room for experimentation

there's zero justifiable reason for limiting non-competitive hearts in any way. if some dude wants to play 50 games of fancy pants a day, he should be allowed to. if some dude wants to play reverse mafia for epicmafia points that dont actually do anything, he should also be allowed to
Like what I'm saying is the problem isn't the cutting of hearts but the new heart system being specifically against those setups. I'm sure there would be better ways to encourage diverse play than something like that. People shouldn't be disallowed from playing FP simply because others don't like it.
Rutab you're right this idea isn't good but for the wrong reason IMO. This is not as much like blacklisting. There was a time when people didn't get 10 hearts a day... Going back to 5 isn't really that close to blacklisting at all, unless you're saying they were almost blacklisted before.
Having 10 hearts a day is way too much in the first place, which is why people are actually forced to play short easy setups like FP if they want to burn them all.
Why this idea won't work is that the choice is completely arbitrary. You're adding hearts for "setups not disliked by comp community". That's not right and it's all completely subjective. Slightly better (but still meh) alternatives would be "featured setups" hearts or "less than x plays setups" hearts, or anything really that isn't "all but these setups we don't like" hearts.
As much as people hate them there's nothing wrong with those setups aside that they are too popular, but such popularity is a good thing for site activity (even if bad for comp style play).

regardless, you should probably keep the coding related ideas to yourself and propose them when lucid's a little more active.
lucid needs to hire coders and give them the go ahead to make improvements to the site or give up the damn site. he is doing nobody any favors holding onto it and stopping it from moving forward
aw smor we all want games to fill faster and not see fp spam and see an increase in the comp player base but this is probably not going to stick. however i will sign just bc i want to see purple hearts bc it would look neat and different (although cmon lucid has prolly been sitting on his sofa binge eating for the past millenium trying to type epicmafia.com into the url tab but his fingers have become too fat to press a singlular key)
yes like neglecting his site lmfao. Also I agree more with Rutab here. The people playing fp are content with playing fp. It's pretty much like going into sandbox and telling them they can play 10 unranked games in 24 hours but you must come to main lobby if you wish to keep playing. The only fix I see for this is to have many more people to discover em and maybe then will we see more people venture out into comp etc. There is no quick fix more hearts solution tbqh.
