Forum Rules

deleteddeletedover 11 years ago

Hello. A select bit of mods have been deliberating for a while on how to improve the forum experience, and we've discussed the idea of implementing Forum Rules. This is something that we want to include the community in, so your feedback/opinions are worthwhile.

Here's a rough draft for what we have in mind.

  • Every subforum that isnt OT is going to be moderated more heavily for off-topic posts, and moderators will reserve the right to delete your post. Don't ruin threads with your banter, go to OT for that.

  • We're going to try and be harder about flaming/harassment on the forums. We want to try and make the place more friendly and while it might be a bit of a change we're asking that you be patient with us and what we have in mind is merely things to be discussed.

  • Negative and constructive criticism is fine. We're not going to silence your opinion for disagreeing or being abrasive, just never make it personal. That's all we ask. We understand that mafia is a competitive game at it's nature and that things are bound to get heated, but that doesn't mean we have to let things get out of control.

  • Trolling will be treated as the same as trolling in-game. A user has a right to report you if he believes that you are trolling them or their thread. Punishments will be handed out accordingly after we readjust what the repercussions will be for forum trolling.

  • OT will be moderated lightly, and GD will be at the discretion of the person making the topic. All rules are going to be in effect for all other subforums.

All mods reserve to delete your posts if they are off-topic.

Calling cheaters cheaters isn't what this is about.

Saying to go to Pics Pls because X person looks like a troll is.

I can guarantee you no one is going to join the forums and say: "wow the new forums are so nice with everyone posting like dolls and all the topics die after 2 posts because that's all they had to be relevant about"
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
I already have two (2) harassment violations for referring to a cheater as a cheater so excuse me if I think the website has been neutered enough already

It's a reference to the censor. As for harassing people on the forums, I've only really done that to Howl.
I guess assists don't count for points

Current examples of all the bullet points or there's no point in commenting.

If no examples can be provided for some then they are non-issues

The harassment rule should stay. A more "definitive" rule is dumb and only person who frequents harassing people would want it.
Help help I'm being called out on my Mafia-Playing Abilities I think it's very harassing please violate this person

The latest in a really long series of regrettable decisions by the mod team that only serve to hollow out the site even more, the goal being making it a pointless shell of its former self.

Riotkiller already cut the balls off these forums, but at least he had an actual reason to do so.

Well yes, I was the factor in the single biggest cleanup of these forums and improvement for the future. ;)
I'm going to assume the wink is a nudge to all the horrible *** you did
Elaborate on this...

Notes for Harassment shouldn't exist.
Harassment as a rule shouldn't exist

Not a good enough excuse for them to become an actually nice & enjoyable place to visit, imo.
maybe if you started punishing people for actually trying offend people, instead of just punishing people who get far enough to heavily offend people

no one gets in trouble for trying to offend or hurt someone else's feelings unless they actually succeed at it, is my point
So you're saying a more definitive rule, rather than something along the lines of harassment (where the offended user has to report, etc)?
Yes. A rule against all personal attacks on the forums.
you're a great expert on that
Don't worry about the negs, you are correct.

sick post edit

harassment is a bad rule because you have to jump through like a million hoops to get anywhere with it and it'll always end in "note for harassment" anyway. "definitive" isn't the word i'm looking for, i just want to be able to report people for being so clearly out to hurt feelings that they should stop posting

people in the survey vote that they don't think the forums are friendly despite them being friendlier than they've been in years, and the mods come up with some baloney bull hockey new rules to fix another problem that isn't there. knew it, knew it, knew it.

It's just so weird to me that for four years everybody knew that this was a community centered around a psychology game and everyone knew to take everything that was posted with a grain of salt, and then all of the sudden everyone thinks they are a Social Justice Warrior.
