Forum Rules

deleteddeletedover 11 years ago

Hello. A select bit of mods have been deliberating for a while on how to improve the forum experience, and we've discussed the idea of implementing Forum Rules. This is something that we want to include the community in, so your feedback/opinions are worthwhile.

Here's a rough draft for what we have in mind.

  • Every subforum that isnt OT is going to be moderated more heavily for off-topic posts, and moderators will reserve the right to delete your post. Don't ruin threads with your banter, go to OT for that.

  • We're going to try and be harder about flaming/harassment on the forums. We want to try and make the place more friendly and while it might be a bit of a change we're asking that you be patient with us and what we have in mind is merely things to be discussed.

  • Negative and constructive criticism is fine. We're not going to silence your opinion for disagreeing or being abrasive, just never make it personal. That's all we ask. We understand that mafia is a competitive game at it's nature and that things are bound to get heated, but that doesn't mean we have to let things get out of control.

  • Trolling will be treated as the same as trolling in-game. A user has a right to report you if he believes that you are trolling them or their thread. Punishments will be handed out accordingly after we readjust what the repercussions will be for forum trolling.

  • OT will be moderated lightly, and GD will be at the discretion of the person making the topic. All rules are going to be in effect for all other subforums.

All mods reserve to delete your posts if they are off-topic.

the only semi-redeeming quality of these forums was its laxness and now the mods decide to dash that down as well in pursuit of their quixotic dramaless utopia
nothing had been decided. These are just ideas that have been tossed around

change the Welcome to EM! section into a section dedicated to introduction threads. most websites have something similar
Here I thought that was the entire point of it from the start

I think this is a good idea as long as it focuses on making the forums more inviting for everyone.

1. That's fine, I don't expect every OT post to be deleted here, moreso the ones that attempt to derail the thread.

2. Agreed.

3. Alright.

4. This would lead to a lot of moronic reports, and most of the time the user will be reported just because the other person doesn't like them/wants to see them get a vio. If this rule were to be implemented, it should be something that only mods can report (a bit like report spam vio)

5. Sure.

As for this thing, I stand by the fact that it's impossible to comment positively or negative unless the mods give current examples. Right now as a mod I could easily make almost any remotely bad post fall into this and we don't want anyone going overboard. What someone else said is true though, that for most things you don't really need new rules just to cut down in harassment

The trolling thing also sounds rather silly.

By your guys' definition then, adding the subforums "Food and Drink" and the others wasnt a bad idea then

You were all so against it, but, it made the forums more active?
Rutab
Miki
i wasnt against it :o
If that was at my point, I don't mean everyone

80% of everyone was against those "pointless" subforums, yet by what theyre saying in this thread, it was successful because it increased forum activity
Rutab
oh and shacky, by everyone, you mean all 7 users who have posted in this thread?
[/quote]I can't find rutabs original posts so I'll just quote Connor

I was against the Food and Drink thing. I still am. It's literally the second most stupid mod decision IMO (the first being banning people that say they are 11 years old and later explain it's a joke).

It did not increase forum activity. It increased activity about "food and drink". It did not increase general forum activity at ALL. If anything, it decreased activity in other areas at the expense of people wanting to make dumb threads in the new subforum.

The argument was that new users would be interested in these forums and join the community. Was this at ALL accomplished? Absolutely not. It was the same people, in fact mostly those that were in support of the idea so the subforum qouldnt die, making threads and posting there.

It's an epicmafia forum, mods should be encouraging mafia talk. You never see strategy discussion in the forums anymore, and instead of making the focus of the forums more towards epicmafia, the mods are trying to shift the discussion to ever more resemble Off Topic aka personal blogs. Complaints/epicmafia should be the highlights of the forums (hypothetically minus all the hate but that's different), not "food and drink".

And for the last time, it did NOT make the forums more active.

Can't we all just get along? :O

Mikiover 11 years ago
that was a big stretch but nothing in comparison to justrec's posts
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
Rutab
There definitely is a circle of users on the forum that stick to their own circle and everyone else isn't welcome to join them in posting
really kerry, because this is a post he made
Mikiover 11 years ago
hes not even acting like justrec
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
Nonon
i dunno why you're trying so hard to adopt a justrec-esque anti-circlejerk agenda but it's annoying the hell out of me
i mean, i dunno why rutab is being such a justrec but we're the only two people who have told him so far and he's forum blocked us so he doesn't even know
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
right now, there are no troublemakers. but i made the point that the only people that the rule would ever affect WOULD be troublemakers
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
those danged circlejerkers!!!!
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
i was being sarcastic. rutab said that 4/5 forumers are mean, rude or EVIL
deleteddeletedover 11 years ago
I'm assuming you're speaking of me and I'm also assuming you know at this point that I don't care about getting violations when I deserve them, so which of those other people do you think is trying to skirt boundaries
