I'M BACK FOR YOUR ANNUAL RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION

so do[es] he/she/it/they exist?

deleteddeletedalmost 12 years agoedited
as an atheist though, i believe theres nothing wrong with wanting to believe there's an afterlife. neither atheists nor religious people know exactly what happens to a person after they die. although i lean towards there being nothing, i want to believe joan rivers is up there waiting for me

Hell & especially Purgatory were both imported ideas from other religions.

OK , what is hell like then

Christians generally believe that people don't burn for sinning, Edark, thank you very much.

I don't really enjoy discussing religion so I'm going to stay away from this discussion, but I was born in a half-Jewish half-Christian household, I consider myself to be a Jew because its beliefs align more with what I like, & I choose to believe in some kind of heaven just because I like to cling onto the hope that I'll see all of my loved ones that passed at least one more time. It's probably a hopeless faith and that's fine, because as far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with deluding myself for comfort.

That's enough serious posting for me for a while. I don't think it's right to berate other people for their beliefs. Everyone has their reasons to believe and to not to, and I think both sides deserve respect.

Quick question, if you nitpick what you believe in the bible, are you still a proper christian or will you burn in hell for not following every command properly as the Lord has given us?

People who devalue all of humanity's progress and science since they are too stupid to understand it themselves and proclaim that "we're all too neanderthalic to grasp the concept of creation on a galactic spectrum" me off
I hate when I am labeled "stupid" or "ignorant" for believing. Science and religion go together. One does not preclude the other.
I didnt say that in this comment though

Besides, they actually do and tend to slow down progression for science, but if you say so!

It looks like Christianity and atheism are the two most common beliefs on epicmafia. I don't mind though - it leads to some interesting discussion (that I'm cautiously sitting out of).
Well, on a predominantly Anglospherical website, that's hardly a surprise. It's still been posted on this site more times than I can count.

Someone should get Pranay in here, at least it'd be a new perspective.

Why does every religion thread just end up as being Christians vs Atheists as if there's only 1 religion in the world, anyway. It's not even like Christianity is the fastest growing major religion anymore, though admittedly it will take quite a while for Islam to overtake it on current rates.

Well, yes, that's what I just said. It's so boring, it's been posted a thousand times. The only time these threads are interesting are when people from different backgrounds to those post in them.
deleteddeletedalmost 12 years ago
It's usually Christians who end up posting about their "god" and not people from other religions posting about their "god". Atheists/agnostics usually post through the perspective of the Christian God as well.
deleteddeletedalmost 12 years ago
Agreed. This thread needs more Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism and Shinto to balance the East/West divide.

God definitely doesn't exist

In response to Apuelo,

As for silly things happening to people, read Ecclesiastes 9:11.

WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH NATURAL RESOURCES. We have the technology to produce and deliver resources all over the world enough to provide for it many times over. It is human greed that has prevented proper distribution of such.

God wrote the laws of science. Better to worship the creator than the created.

The earth is not even full yet. God could easily make other planets inhabitable in the future. Additionally, Adam might not have thought that there would be humans all over the earth when there was only 1 of him, but here we are.

For evolution:
The fossil record proves creation.
A View of Life states: “Beginning at the base of the Cambrian period and extending for about 10 million years, all the major groups of skeletonized invertebrates made their first appearance in the most spectacular rise in diversity ever recorded on our planet.”—(California, 1981), Salvador E. Luria, Stephen Jay Gould, Sam Singer, p. 649.

Paleontologist Alfred Romer wrote: “Below this [Cambrian period], there are vast thicknesses of sediments in which the progenitors of the Cambrian forms would be expected. But we do not find them; these older beds are almost barren of evidence of life, and the general picture could reasonably be said to be consistent with the idea of a special creation at the beginning of Cambrian times.”—Natural History, October 1959, p. 467.

About wars: Look in the next couple days for a topic called "Why Does God Allow Suffering?"
Nice qoutes on outdated sources to prove a point which is incredible dumb

Is it God who created Men, or Man who created Gods?
Both.

The true God made man, but man made false Gods.

Read Isaiah 44:13-19

i am not presuming i am speaking like aman of god...
If you give me some money and confess your sins you will be saved..
1 Corinthians 9:18
"What, then, is my reward? That when I declare the good news, I may offer the good news without cost, to avoid abusing my authority in the good news."

Straight up, church should be free. That narrows down the true religion to like 0.001% of the population.
