I haven't really seen the mentor program being used all that much, and I thought of maybe implementing the mentoring into account creation. Right now I don't see much going on with the mentorship program because it isn't that heavily advertised, but if it were an option at the account creation, they wouldn't be able to ignore it, right?
I have no coding knowledge so I don't know how possible this is, but the process would go like this:
someone creates an account --> during the account creation process, it asks "are you a returning player?" if yes --> regular account creation, if no --> "would you like to enter into a mentorship program where an experienced player would help you become familiar with strategies, vocab, etc?"
then they would automatically be shuffled into the mentorship program where they would be randomly assigned one of the mentors who specialize in beginners. Then once they fit the criteria they would be shifted into the intermediate, and then advanced, and then released into the world ready to win competitions!!!
Let me know what you think guys, I've sent it to various people in positions of power but the community's opinion is important too!
Also there are some tutorials on YouTube just not any official ones aside from the wiki (of course, new players probably won't look at these tutorials out of site)
tutorials should be integrated with account creation. imo

Yeah, because right now there's a thread about the program in a forum that most new players don't even know about.
Most players dont know how to get to the forums. Again i mention a tutorial..
I believe this is why we are seeing so many noavis. Granted most people stay a noavi just because, but most new players dont even know how to change it.
Yeah but no one wants to join a site and immediately get popups suggesting they're gonna need mentoring at it. I know if I were to join an unfamiliar site right now and it offered me help, I'd automatically hit 'no' and see how I fared exploring it myself.
like i said above, giving them the option won't hurt it will only help
Worse case scenario they click no and we keep hinting it.

This is why EM needs an informative tutorial. To teach the players the bare bones and then ask if they need mentoring for the more important stuff.
A problem i had with my mentees is they didn't even know what the Mentorship Program was they just signed up. If there was a way of politely forcing them to read about it that would be good.

Maybe it'd be worth, after a player has played their 5 unranked games (compulsory to play ranked), for a notice to appear about mentoring?
That way they've had chance to explore and play alone, and if they feel they'd like further help (particularly stepping into the murky world of ranked), they're pointed in the right direction?
even those unranked games would be a good start for mentoring

Even if newcomers don't personally want to get into the competitive side of mafia, exposing them to the possibility is better than having them look for it themselves. don't you think?
metaphor: high schoolers who go to college fairs to look at what colleges have to offer have a better idea of their options, whereas some don't know about the college fairs, thus being unexposed to the same options as the high schoolers who attend the college fairs.
wouldn't you rather know the options that you have?
I think the issue is that new players might not know if they want mentoring or not. They have just joined the site and they might not even want to go into the competitive side of mafia.
True. Either way I think integrating it more into the site is a good thing.
So then saying during the creation "you can cancel this manually later" would take care of that feeling of unease. Wouldn't it?
I just think that advertising it during account creation is better than having a forum thread about it when most training players don't even know about the forums.
