People have complained since the beginning of time that the same old boring setups are made competitive every few rounds. Recently, I discovered setups need to have 200 ranked plays before they can be made competitive, or get "comped" for a competitive round in this lobby--unless approved otherwise by the Round Moderator.
It may be difficult to get 200 ranked plays in a setup you want to get considered for competitive play. Not only that, but it also has to follow all of the other guidelines for competitive setups (see: https://epicmafia.com/topic/91250 for these).
I want to create a weekly setup feature where those of us who are interested in getting new setups into competitive play a setup for a week and try getting as many plays on it as we can. Here's how it would work:
Before every Sunday, people post setups that they would like to try out--one setup per post. We will vote on the setups by plussing each post (please DO NOT NEG SETUP POSTS--votes lock each Sunday--only vote on one account please, this is for the good of competitions and we therefore want our voting to be honest), and whichever setup gets the highest number of votes will be played that week. That setup will be played as much as possible in red hearts for it to achieve at least the minimum 200 plays it needs until the end of the following Saturday. Then, we repeat the process with new setups. In the event of a tie, we will do one setup one week and the next setup the next week, and skip voting for one week.
This week will be for interested users to sign up, by voting in this doodle:
As an added incentive, I want to see if I can get any players to commit to comp 1 of any of the successful setups that we gain through this weekly feature of mine if they win a round. I will put my name on this list. I will also make a video on my YouTube channel talking about the setup that wins the vote each week!
Round Winners Who Will Comp a New Successful Setup (if they win a Competitive Round):
Giga13
alexandra
Songin
List of successful setups which we have played and are made competitive worthy:
If you're busy, no worries! You can still vote yes in the poll if you're interested, because all you really have to do is just play the weekly featured setup from this thread whenever you're available and help vote on which setup you want to see featured for that week.
You may go ahead and start posting setups below! One setup per post please. Voting closes Saturday June 23rd @11:59PM EST. NO NEGGING SETUP POSTS, Plussing or leaving the post alone only
Poll
Do you want to participate in this to help get more new setups into competitive?
The first setup (this week's) is Watch Yourself V3 ( https://epicmafia.com/setup/1495356 ). I wanted to comp it for this round but it didn't have enough plays, so leb & charley were nice enough to feature it.
Keep posting setups! And vote on them by plussing them if you want to see them featured!
In regards to featured setups, i would love to see a different variety of setups, especially ones the encourage competitive play.
Now i'm the round mod, so i have final say on what setups get featured. The fourth place runner gets to pick a setup. That leaves room for one more setup.
I'm totally for this, we could change the other featured setup once a week, so when a setup each week gets decided, just send me a pm and i will be more than happy to switch the setups up
Edit: Do not neg setup posts, just leave it alone if you don't like it. You can also feel free to post why you do/don't like a setup if you want, discussion is good
Sure I'll vote for that one why not. Looks different than many other setups and has a lot of new roles I haven't really played with before. Not to mention some different gameplay elements
Im not winning rounds but i would participate to get a setup to 200 ranked plays
No problem that list is simply for people who are committing to comp a successful new setup from this thread if/when they win a round. If you run often and want to be on it then great!
Before every Sunday, people post 1 setup that they would like to try out
My initial thoughts when I first read this post----
WOW! Giga is back at it again, trying to make this world better for all of us. I was legit smiling reading this post until I saw this line! Man, a great concept but the social anxiety of having to choose 1 setup a week is just making me curl up in a ball right now. I hope you rethink this
Well a lot of people are probably going to post setups and it would be really difficult to choose between 50 instead of 20 for example
But now that I think about it, the more setups, the better. Just make it one post per setup so people can plus or minus the post saying if they like it or not. Voting is really easy. Check out my edits.

While I do support this, I want to mention that the players who complain that complain there is no diversity are for the most part the same players that will play "this setup is bad" over anything else that is comped that round.
It's hard to stay consistent on unfamiliar setups, which is why most people stick to the basics when it comes to competitive. Thus, I think it should be more incentivised through the featured setups. If a setup is played enough in red hearts, people will feel more comfortable taking it into golden hearts.
Nontheless, it is an idea I can get behind.
This is also something I was curious about. How many setups are allowed to be featured at a time? If it can be 3, then that's great. If not, then it's okay because we can just "feature" them here anyhow which is what my original idea was lol
Good luck, legend! Make us proud!
Ty!
Historically it's been 2, I don't know if it's a hard limit or if it's subject to change, but that's something that can be discussed.
And featuring them here would be great for the people that actively want to change something around, but if they are featured on-site, then one would also have a "mechanical" incentive to play - higher payout, which would be helpful in the long run.
