Focus on winning the game. If you worry about being scumread or townread, then you will get nowhere. Towntelling is not the only way to survive a lynch. And Towntelling will not always guarantee you survival. You just have find out a way to influence people into not lynching you. There may be cases where lynching you is optimal. You need to convince them otherwise. If you wanna learn tricks to do that. It comes with practice. You will see who is influenced by what. Every player has a weakness. If you hit the right spot, you will get into a desired position.

just troll a little bit, dont slip if you are mafia, kill a wide variety of people as mafia (maybe your friends if they know your meta), dont feel afraid to use your own strats even if it isnt the meta

Towntelling is make believe. Consciously or subconsciously, people do not vote the people they like. Telling jokes is more likely to win you the game than deduction
people who seem genuine typically are townread more often. idk thats just an observation that people who go "LOL" or "aww" are perceived more town but thats just my biased thoughts from playing this game for over 9 years. there's something about simple/small words that causes people to trust each other, idk if thats true or if other people disagree.
