Qs about being religious thread

deleteddeletedabout 9 years ago

In real life lately, I have had a lot of good questions from non-Christians (Muslim, Jew, Hindu, etc) about being Christian and our beliefs. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask them here. I am open to respectful discussions on this matter here or in PM. I am a Christian, but I have soul searched on this topic a lot over the years..

It really captures the spirit of the website. A little childish, a little autistic, and trying too hard to look like it isn't trying at all.

What is a god and then once you've defined that, why do you think there is one of those?
why do you care?
I like watching people get mad.
Don't we all?
I made a new banner. Wanna see?

Another thread where people try to debate spiritual matters with worldly logic. These never turn out good. GL all!
>Worldly logic

>As if there's some secret supernatural logic
i think he means alien logic tho
He actually does mean supernatural, but doesn't want to admit it.

I think the most telling thing about this thread is that the people who find the biggest quarrel with an existence of a God is a communist and a grown man who dresses like a pony.

Also, just to refute the ontological argument point by point instead of just calling it garbage:

1) I can conceive of a greater possible being than god, because it is everything god is, except it looks like Spongebob, which I think is the greatest body shape. According to this premise, I have proven that god looks like Spongebob.

2) Cool, I accept the premise that says something can exist in your mind or also in reality.

3) I reject the assertion that it is greater for a thing to exist in reality instead of just in the mind.

4) I obviously reject the conclusion that you've proven a god which you haven't defined.

The perfect island:
1) Think of an island more excellent than any other island.
2) This island may exist in your mind or reality.
3) Something that exists in reality is greater than something that exists only in the mind.
4) The island must exist in reality, otherwise it would not be the greatest possible island.

The ontological argument is a priori garbage.

its funny because the ontological argument doesn't define what god is
Yup. And even if I accepted that pile of crap, it still doesn't get me to any religion. You know, you can replace the word God for unicorn, since I think unicorns are more maximally great beings. I've just proven unicorns.

i personally don't believe we have free will. but i think that's quite a radical position in christianity.
Well, the gov't believes you have free will. The grocery store thinks you do. The Supreme court believes you do.

The Rockefeller's and the New World Order don't though.
Are you responsible of your actions or no?
It would appear from my previous post that I hold the affirmative viewpoint.

If i understand your answer, he can only makes me do a choice, but he cannot control the outcome (my choice)? Or can he?

What about when the environment he can "control" is actually because of others persons choices, like your girlfriend dumping you. What happens then?

Did god control the environment of me being dumped or did he only control my ex gf options, did she dump me from her free will or nah?
I believe God can put ideas into people's heads if he wants, but he doesn't every time. I think it's still the person's choice to follow through. He can control variables but doesn't always intervene.
