Thinkers

Let's Make This Brief

Alright mates, I'm currently attempting to structure a lobby devoted to the self-proclaimed 'thinkers' on this site. EpicMafia is a mind-game, and while I definitely won't claim you need to be a great thinker to play the game, it does require some amount of activity upstairs. That being said, there should hopefully be a moderate number of people who have become consumed with pursuing philosophical ideologies; and with any luck you'll be willing to join!

So, if you are someone who engages frequently with philosophy (whether from personal interest or pursuing a degree), please feel free to apply to join the lobby early! I'll post a follow-up thread at some point to outline what exactly the custom lobby will include - but in the meantime PM me for the application (it's pretty easy).

All fields of thought are welcome - not just philosophy. Which leads me to my next point.

I Need Moderators!

Yes! You could very well be the next moderator of this lobby. The moderator application will be far more expansive, so if you're committing, you better be willing to stick to it!

Each moderator will head a different 'department' of this lobby. Look below at the list of departments, if you're proficient in any of these areas then I implore that you apply.

Technology - Headed by Man

Philosophy - Headed by Man

Psychology - Headed by [Your Name Here!]

Mathematics - Headed by [Your Name Here!]

Engineering - Headed by [Your Name Here!]

Art - Headed by [Your Name Here!]

Other - I'm in a hurry so I've left some out, if you have a department you'd want to head, PM me!

Cheers mates.

What's wrong with wanting to identify with a community of people motivated by exploring various fields of thought?

a group of people who pretend theyre better than everyone else in an attempt to feel confident about their nonexistent skills... interesting
If that's how you approximate what's going on here, then go for it mate. If you want to be a part you can head the 'perpetually a buzzkill' department!

PM me some of your works! I'm not so certain that this will take off, as I've a concluded the majority of individuals here are deplorable to the furthest extent - so much so that an intelligent minority isn't even sustainable, so searching for one is useless. However, if I stumble upon this silent minority of thinkers, you are a prime candidate to head the art department. Cheers mate.

But instead of addressing the point I'm trying to make, you're addressing the analogy and calling it offensive. Perhaps this new analogy will serve better?
Look mate, you're dedicated to what you have to say, and that's actually awesome as hell - and for the most part, I entirely support what you're saying. I just want to ensure that I have your counterpart. That's all I'm looking for.

Issues of theology are, frankly, boring as hell and an absolute drag to discuss: it takes controversy to create interest, and even then the discussion is always going to be one resolute individual clashing with one resolute individual. There's no substance to it, which is largely why I was initially going to avoid theism as an overarching topic of discussion and constrain those conversations to the purely philosophical. 'Anti-Theism' doesn't exactly strive to share knowledge or explore new ideas, but to dismantle theistic principals, which is dismissing an entire field of higher-level thought. While their answers were definitely wrong, they were still exploring the key issues existentialists explore today.

I'm not trying to compare you to the holocaust, the objective was only to point out a flaw in your argument.

You said that "Spiritual frames of thought have engendered a surplus of genuinely brilliant ideas, art, and culture." This is true, but it's not relevant. Good things can come out of something bad, and the fact that something good can come from something bad says nothing about the actual thing itself.

I can murder someone and the victim's organs can provide assistance to others in need. But if we're discussing murder, you wouldn't mention that some organs went to people on a donor list. It's true, but it has nothing to do with murder being moral or immoral.
