It's funny that you mention a democratic moderation system because I've often asked myself:
"How can you take ideas out of game theory to incentivize a community to be nice to each other"
and if I were designing such a system, I would create a "secret council" that appoints the moderators under the following conditions:
1. they cannot be moderators themselves 2. they cannot reveal their position to anyone 3. they do not know who the other council members are 4. secret council members are refreshed every year
then I'd fill it with random people like you, mikeyru, and maymay
but the general public does not know who the members are, so anyone that wants to be a moderator has incentive to be nice to everyone.
