Do you think it's funny? Aren't jokes by definition funny? If it isn't funny then isn't it not a joke, by definition? What about in setups with daystart, where mafia don't know their partners? Is it a super funny joke then?

And actually, there have been studies done into what exactly makes something funny to people, what the root cause of creating a laughter response in a human or animal is.
If I'm remembering right the researchers found some connection to humor resulting from a situation being not what it's expected to be, but in an innocent way. Though that does not cover all forms of humor that we experience, of course.
So when someone claims mafia in a game where the entire objective is to hide your identity as mafia, and yet the game is largely unaffected by this, it's funny.
