A sandwich is more than just something between two pieces of bread. But for a sandwich to be a sandwich there is something I like to call "sandwich intent". You know if something is intended to be a sandwich. Yes, a submarine sandwich is a sandwich, cause you can tell it's trying to be a sandwich. A wrap is not a sandwich. A taco is not a sandwich. A gyro is not a sandwich. But this is all stuff between bread basically. A hamburger is not a sandwich, and it doesn't try to be one. It's its own thing, you know? And a hot dog is exactly the same, it's its own thing, and thats cool. Its unique. But its not a sandwich.
A sandwich has to be between 2 slices of bread, right? What do we call a submarine sandwich, then? Are they a sandwich in name only, since it's 1 piece of bread?
