This website is far past the point where having ranked and unranked games in main lobby makes sense.

Both sandbox and main lobby suffer from this weird choice. Unranked games should go in sandbox, which will boost the ever slowing population of 12 person closed setups, and ranked games should go in main lobby.

Without the influx of unranked games being made, competitive games will not be second paged so fast, and thus fill more often, allowing more than 2 setups to be played each round.

The problem is less that there aren't enough people to fill comp games and more that sometimes 5 unranked games of classic mafia are made above your game within 20 seconds of making it, forcing you to remake over and over, losing players who had joined already every time.
That's a clearer explanation as opposed to what's written in OP. I agree games disappearing off the front page deters people from playing comp games.

They don't, though. It should be the default.
it should i agree. i don't think all of open/in progress/finished games should be shown together. if lucid fixed it so you'd have to click the buttons to see in progress/closed it'd be a lot better

The user base is decreasing without many fresh users joining and staying.

Removing unranked games won't magically increase the number of users who play comp games needed to fill more comp tables.
No one implied that it would. What it would do is keep games on the first page longer, and give them a longer amount of time to fill before being banished to the netherealm of the second page.

I kinda agree with this but new users/accounts have to play 4 unranked games to play ranked sandbox is a private lobby now. It might be confusing for new players that they need to go to sandbox to do this as well unless it autoloads them there or an unranked lobby.
Worth it.
