What he did was not a mech test actually. What he did was same as asking the watcher " who did you track? " . The person didn't slip but inadvertently gave a response that cab be taken as a response to a mech test.
Then devante went full tool by saying that he passed a mech test when he didn't actually mech test.
Then bush threw the game by thinking it wasn't fair and thus he should be shot.
Later on devante did call him the r word indirectly. He made it abundantly clear.
