NEW GAME: Circle

deleteddeletedover 10 years ago

Based on the Movie Circle (2015) Steamable on Netflix.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3118452/

Descriction:

A group of strangers wake up in a dark room, in a circular formation. Every few minutes, one of them must die. They must vote for who is executed, and their ultimate goal is to have the person they want be the last one standing...wether it be themselves or someone else...

Gameplay:

The game can be played with any number of players, with 8 being the minimum.

There are no whispers, so the players must discuss in the main town meeting. The host does not say anything unless there are questions pertaining to the game.

Players are aloud to vote or unvote at anytime using the lynchboard, but they may not vote for the host. Nl'ing will be turned off.

Once everyone has hammered and a player has a majority vote, they are killed and are out of the game. If there is a tie and a force nl occurs, the next day players may only vote for the players in the tie. If there is still a tie, the host will break the tie by voting for the first person who was in the tie on their pulldown menu.

The final two works the same way as in the movie. One player must sacrifice themselves for the other player. If neither players are willing to sacrifice themselves, they both "die" and no one wins the game.

This game is different from other games in Survivor Lobby because the players are the ones who run the show, not the host. There are no challenges, so players are limited to their strategic and social skills.

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Can we play it? :D
I've hosted it. 10 people decided to suicide, but after that (f10 and beyond) was fun
I'd love to try it out again tho, this time with a shorter time limit, and maybe with less people? It was very chaotic with 20 people, but with 10 it was very fun. If it's too chaotic, people will be more turned away from it.

Ah, I understand now!

It would be a bit chaotic, like one person vote, then bunch of people will sheep that guy, or sheep the person who counter against the train. Which ruins the talking part. However in the movie, nobody knows who voted who, so it should be like that in the game.

I also thought like, what if whispers were enabled, but if people were caught whispering each other, it would result in their death (i guess similarly with what happened in the movie with someone i think?).

Hm....I know POD has it set up tonight, but in the future, do you think it would be possible to see what non anon votes are like, leaving everyone to pretty much make decisions out loud, or do you think that might just be chaotic?

Oh well, I've just watched the movie, awesome. I'm wondering if you replace blues with leaders so votes might be anonymous... however nobody will see the votes so eh, it wouldn't work in case of tie.
What POD is going to do tonight is so that the votes are anon, we're gonna lynch his alt so he can see if anyone is whispering each other. Whispers will only be used for voting.

I pretty much decided to read a synopsis of the movie sicne I don't have netflix and the concept pretty cool for sure. Is there any way you'd be able to implement some of the limitations done in it?

if you added a time limit like in the movie too, i think that'd be cool & add pressure! but i think the game would be fun either way
That would be interesting. Maybe check the 'faster game' box?
you'd really have to enforce the voting be done by the time the in-game timer runs down, but that could work

HardCarry
my problem with this game is the f2
The idea of the game is that there is no host interference, so no challenges and no jury votes.

You want to take someone to the end who will let you win, or take someone to the end who you want to win. It is a unique mechanic not seen in any other game. I would like to see how it plays out in a real game.

How would you want the winner to be decided?

Pretty bland game, just a popularity contest really. Voting for the first person on the menu adds randomness which is bad. The ending can be anticlimatic and most of the time it will be. The rules need adjustment.
Sorry, I meant to write that the first person in the hosts pulldown menu who was included in the tie...but in the movie there was an element of randomness. I feel like the randomness variable would urge players not to go into a tiebreaker.

I agree with you that it may turn into a popularity contest, but aren't all games?

wow
i think this is the only game where nobody can win
i like it

I would definitely recommend this movie! It has a lot of parallels to Big Brother/Survivor, and even some aspects of this lobby!
