It was a bit over-hyped but I still thought it was enjoyable. : )

I have heard lots of praise for Gintama but I'm not ready for that sort of commitment. Tell me if it's worth it though! :D

Agreed! Monster is actually the longest anime I've ever watched (I'm a lightweight haha) and it did drag on a little in parts. Most of them, yeah, when Johan started acting a little kinder. I think that was the university arc? I don't super remember but I feel like he had some kind of weird double personality thing going on. I really should rewatch it.

Lunge/the detective was a really good character for sure--at times he was almost 2srs4me but he kind of needed to be. I have to say Tenma was my favorite just because he's like, one of the few anime character's I'd be 100% down for knowing IRL. He's such a sweet and level-headed guy, even down to the wire. I just like that in a character. Also Deiter was cute--or whoever the little boy was that Tenma basically adopted.

Oh, you're thinking of Grimmer! Gosh, that guy. My heart still hurts for his character arc, the poor thing.

If he hadn't died I like to think he and Tenma would've been really good friends for sure--Grimmer needed that support, given his whole horrible fiasco with his son dying and wife leaving him.

The poor budget, though. I swear most of it was used on Johan; he was the most dynamic-moving thing in the whole anime, lmao.

Thoughts on the ending? I can't really tell if

Johan survived, or if he died, and if he did survive, did he reform? That just feels like a weirdly boring ending--but it had to complete the Bible imagery. I think Revelations states somewhere that the Antichrist will suffer 2 fatal headwounds and survive both of them, so maybe that's the open-endedness of it. Did he survive the last headwound or not? We don't know.

tenrou island > > > > >> edolas but edolas > > > > > key of the starry skies. i can't even ironically encourage people to watch that disgusting arc. the anime producers have 0 sense of creativity and can adapt the manga. but the GMG arc is better anime than manga imho because the animaters not only adapted it perfectly, but extended everything that needed to be extended and nothing more.

Yes!! The second season is great too! Personally, I love the unique characters in the class. My favorite character is either Karasuma or Isogai.

loved Monster, but i cant say i remember all the details, since i saw it about 4 years ago. it was very thrilling, albeit there is a good chunk of episodes that drag on a bit with a sluggish pacing in the plot. i think it's roughly when he goes to visit the university iirc? idk

i think Monster is v compelling, and my fav char is still the detective. also found johan's righthand man v intriguing. the fight scene btwn these 2 is great also.

as for the thematic elements, i feel like it's a little heavy-handed at times. repetition sort of drives the point home, but the most beautiful, haunting moments come when new characters interact and further unravel the mystery. the tall guy who helps the doctor towards the end (i forget his name, but he was also at -that place- with johan) was a really great touch. the characters in the story really make the show.
