Definitely black cats, yeah. But it seems like female cats are abandoned more often. We have had mostly female cats at the shelter for as long as I've been there. And most of the male cats get scooped up faster.
Which rings true to me cause my only male cat is Mittens and he is a friggin baby. He lets me cuddle him and use him as a pillow and he just lays there purring forever. All you have to do is look at him and he starts to purr. Happy little booger. He has such a sad back story though! The woman I adopted him from was walking down the street and heard meowing, she opened up a garbage bag to find a litter of dead kittens and he was the only one left alive. His litter mates chewed off his tail trying to survive so now he has a stump ;_;
Fuzz was also a neglecterino, her prior owners made her and her sister live in a cage inside a tent in their backyard, where she got heat stroke. She also now has hyperthyroidism and requires medication, my poor little fuzzball :c
Going off my current understanding, older, male, and/or black cats would be the least wanted demographic for some utterly absurd reason. Does that seem to be true in your experience? Or just the older cat thing? your pets are all so adorable ;u;
edit: i missed Keri's. Peaches looks silly. <3 I'm glad he's okay! stalking this thread forever
I have a lot of pets... From left to right is: Mittens, Stabby, Ralpy, Lemmy, and Fuzz. All my cats are old farts, Mittens and Fuzz are 13, Lemmy is 10, and Stabby is 8. My bun is only a year old. I'm on the board at an animal shelter so I tend to foster lots of animals as well, and sometimes end up adopting them (ie: Lemmy and Fuzz) lol. I have a soft spot for the older cats cause everyone wants kittens :c
Sadly, I have no pictures of the dogs and cats I've been co-owned by before now, but I do have this remarkably fitting picture of Mr./Sir Nick T. His personality matches his coat. He dips his paws in milk and water rather than tipping it over; that is some serious class, imnsho. He is also slow and polite when walking in front of computers, and he doesn't usually sit directly on top of the keyboards. Oh, and he usually runs zealously towards me when I call him, because he actually seems to enjoy being petted. He does occasionally dash in front of people when they're carrying things, though; made my mom drop a water bowl once.
I know breeding isn't very ethical but I was (more of) a kid and I wanted an american curl cat specifically and my parents eventually conceded. Little did I know I would get extremely lucky and end up with this funny, curious, sugar-sweet little Einstein. (If you're wondering how she manages to be in the most perfectly adorable position there, the answer is she does it on purpose. I know this because she had a period of rolling over on her back whenever she thought I was about to take her inside. Then it stopped working so she stopped bothering to do it in that particular situation. Too late now, Star! We're onto your plot!!!)
there are some other cats, too. i think i've made this post sufficiently spammy already, though, and there are a lot of pictures I'd have to sort through to find individuals
edit: in my defense american curl cats are one of the few breeds with no associated health problems except an increased risk of ear infections -- most likely 'cause of the narrow ear canals -- and I was careful to check this before begging for one. the breed history is really heartwarming, but they just recently stopped allowing outbreeding, which sucks d/ick.
