How did you learn to get better...

...at epicmafia? I'm still a somewhat of a new player, and I'm not that good at the game. How did you learn to get better?

There are 3 people on this list who should be allowed to mentor. One of them is the admin of the site now, and the other is Shivv. So that leaves 1 not-complete-crap mentor left standing
yea, some of these are survivor lobby mentors though. (lol)

Well I never did it correctly, I tried and I failed

I was unhappy that I never got it done (perhaps I would have if Jasprar didn't rob me of it--but that's no excuse) but I've moved on and have achieved other things since then
I'm trying to remember why this was done...
He saw me as a middle man that wasn't needed even though literally right before he did it I gave him blueprints to revive the program

I offered no resistance. I let him take it without a fight

Mentoring program is broken, but it's a salvageable concept. That's the tldr of my posting, I don't think it ever did anybody a substantial amount of good unless Anthony was your mentor maybe because Anthony's a cool mentor.
you were the worst mentor
what are u tempting me to break Jackteam rules and forum suspend u now?

But really, I was pretty terrible.

Yea, wasn't your fault though. You tried. There really just wasn't any motivation.
Shivv's good at mafia but he's not good at staying out of trouble

I don't know man, back when the program was created they were chosen the same way as mods--we didn't want notorious or hateful users to be mentors, and that was probably a mistake but I refused to do it and I had a team of 9-10 other people to back me. Now I'm just the last one left

I'll say a lot of it has always been done through PM so it never looked like a lot was going on but more goes on behind the curtains as far as I know

It used to anyway idk about today
oh yeah all of my communication was pm and Skype, but I've never really seen many people actually say "yeah my mentor helped/is helping me"
deleteddeletedalmost 11 years ago
It's completely doable, you just need a team of people who care about helping people get better and are capable of helping them become better. The current incarnation of the system never had that. I don't know why certain users were chosen, but they have not done a good job. The design Giga, which if I am not mistaken was your idea, is fine. The people you picked were not.

A mentoring program isn't "needed", it would just be convenient if it were done correctly.
pretty sure the majority of current mentors don't actually do anything to help their mentees. When i actually wanted mentoring anthony was more than happy to help me out. Then again the best i ever did in comp came before mentoring so maybe this whole system sucks anyways

I've nothing against sonseray taking the reigns of the mentoring program, personally. It always felt like everybody was more concerned about the mentor's violation history than how actually good they are at mafia, which is why people like me got mentored once upon a time. I've pushed for people like Mikalis and Shivv to mentor before, but idk.
Do you think Shivv is a good example for a new user

I don't and I don't regret my decision
No, but you always can control who he mentors and who he doesn't mentor. I would've loved to had been mentored by Shivv.

My violations are for being an a$$hole, not for breaking in game rules

Honestly I'm being real I've realized a mentor program isn't even needed (realized it some time ago) but I'm not going to argue that it should be removed, some people benefit from it and that's good for them. But that doesn't mean that there aren't other ways to go about learning the game, after all the mentoring program only started in 2012
Giga13almost 11 years ago
But I will say this, the only reason I'm even here is because of you, sonseray

Crazier things have happened but right now it's a no from me
