Token betting pools to bet on top 3 each round.

Playing a game with someone you bet on disqualifies you and is a violation.

Reinvigorates interest in comp, and, point 2, betting pools

It's a great idea, lucid would clean up and it would be fun and it takes as much effort to code as a mini game. There really isn't a downside.

Is it possible to close the betting pools after a certain point in the round? Or make it so in order to enter the pool it must be done within the first day of the round?
Yes, it wouldn't be hard to code that at all.
I don't see the problem with this as long as you cap off the amount of tokens you can bet. Could result in a lot of people throwing against or for people for the tokens though.
Tokens are pretty much worthless. Somehow I doubt that much effort will be put into obtaining 5 bucks worth of colored usernames
You haven't seen the things I've seen. What people will do for colored font and a background...

You only need a gambling permit if the in game currency can be exchanged for cash, as with poker chips. Tokens can be exchanged for locked snippets of basic HTML code locked behind a paywall.

It only requires a gambling permit if the currency can be exchanged for cash. The mobile game 8 ball pool lets you do this, they don't have a gambling permit. Micro transactions buy the currency, the currency is for in game use only. The betting pool happens to be a part of the game you can use the currency at.
