So uhm, if you read the lobby wall you'll know that after 865 games of fancy pants I've finally decided to move on and play some of the more complicated set ups, and would like to venture into competitive lobbies in the near future (I've tried a few times already, they didn't go too well). I was going to post on the mentor thread but it seems that's locked now, so I wanted some advice for the biggest things to look at for when I want to move on from fancy pants and the like, because right now my lack of experience/skill in stuff like Basic Variant is really glaring.
I stopped playing Fancy Pants as my only red heart games and I'm now actually trying the great featured setups that give DOUBLE points and they're actually quite popular. It changes every round the featured setups and they're really fun and competitive to play, it's just like you're playing in the comp round with less pressure and you're getting double the points!
This will improve your pie because they're mostly about skill and not super luck-based like Fancy Pants.
Yeah it's something a lot of people struggle with, just don't try too hard to emulate your play as town and instead think of it as if you're playing as town trying to form genuine reads on the other players.

There's really not a lot to it, don't feel obligated to rush just because others might be and just think "would I do x thing as mafia" or the other way around if you're trying to survive as scum. All you have to keep in mind is that as long as you don't focus on survival and self-preservation you'll probably live the game. Pinpointing your reads more accurately comes with time and isn't really something you can be taught.
