Hi. Recently, I've felt that our current rules do not fit the current meta and playerbase, and are outdated in many aspects. I've been thinking about rewriting them in full, but I figured that a more open approach would allow for everyone to be more content if such a thing happened. I want to use this thread to talk about discrepancies in the system and how to appropriately fix or address them. I believe that the rules are not accessible enough based on website design alone and how they are handled. This leads to a lot of complaints that could be thinned down if people came together and defined the rules in such a way that can make everyone (mostly) happy. I want to use this thread as a placeholder and for people to be critical as much as they please with aspects of the report system also, and how we as a team could possibly improve it or get lucid to notice that it is in need of an overhaul. It's a very daunting task, but I want to believe that the people who spend their time in the complaints section, constantly riding on mods or problems with the site, finally will put their money with their mouth is.

The goal of this thread is to hopefully allow new and old users thoroughly understand the rules more clearly so the amount of reports diminishes and people have a more enjoyable experience.

Alright. We're (though it's literally mostly me with Sims' blessing) gonna try and shorten the rules down so they are more accessible and streamlined to newcomers and are written in such a way that are better defined without allowing users to find loopholes in them. I'll also work on trolling and such.
what if you incorporated the wiki in with the rules page? like have a brief one or two sentence description of each rule, with a link to the wiki page that has a more in-depth description.

also, it'd probably require more coding than lucid is willing to do, but what if there was a 2-step quiz type thing, where when you first register there's a pop up with the basic community rules that are required even in unranked. then after they play their unranked games, there's a 2nd pop up with the game related rules that only really apply to ranked and competition, and maybe a short quiz so they dont just auto close it.

it'd be like a really short tutorial almost. and that way, they have a chance to get familiar with the less intuitive rules. idk.

also i think the mod discretion vio is a terrible idea, unless there was a condition where like, at least 3 mods and the admin agree, or something along those lines. and even then it seems like it would be abused.

i'm not even remotely involved with 90% of this site and i was able to contribute. the community lacks incentive and motivation, i guess.

It's sad because most of the community will not see this, and even if they do they probably won't post

I know mostly only 6 or so people contributed but I really appreciate the feedback. I'm sure connor will have his say when he wakes up too and probably Zovea and co but hey.

im not exactly sure why trolling needs to be eradicated from ranked games, its p much light gt
agreed, but the rule should be worded better to reflect that
AdrenalineMimeabout 11 years ago
it's just not a descriptive name. call it intentional bad play then.
deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago
Trolling's a really good violation when you have a dimwit fakeclaiming cop continually or something like that. It's not enough for GT but should be punished either way.

trolling is just intentional bad play, which by zovean philosophy should be punished
deleteddeletedabout 11 years ago
i wouldn't say that getting mad at a game, spacing out, and trolling are particularly congruous behaviors but you're still pretty much correct

trolling is kinda redundant now that HC, GT, spamming, isp, lobby camping, banned user, exist. can't think of a situation where trolling is not one of those
It's good for game-related purposes, not so much community. I'd like to fix that.

I'm on board with shortening the rules or doing what AMime suggested with the whole 'seperate page that summarizes the rules.' Now it's just a matter of getting the rest of my team on board instead of looking like I'm making all the shots.
not a single one of them has made a significant contribution to this thread (they should really keep in mind that they are still part of the community, and not somehow above it) and that really says a lot.
i think slow said something a few pages ago
keyword: significant
thats the joke

next order of business: trolling. What's the deal??? *passes mic to error*
it's an abstruse catch-all term that needs to be treated with less specificity, reworded, or removed entirely

make the rules more accessible and easier to read. tie them to basic sportsmanship clauses rather than some arbitrary ruleset that this site just kinda has. i tried this with the wikia attempt: http://epicmafia.wikia.com/wiki/Rules
main point: it's clearly written as a brief code of conduct rather than a reference book used to remember the specifics of the rules.

like, maybe keep the current rules as it is but have a separate page that summarizes the rules
I like this. I really do feel the rules need to be intricate for the modding aspect however so that the new mods understand precedents. How will we accompany that?
it may sound a bit iffy but if you leave the rules more vague it gives moderators more power, not less.
I get that actually. It makes people unable to go through loopholes because the rules are more streamlined so people can't point out one sentence of text and say 'well the rules say this so..'

Can't imagine every time someone tried to say 'well the rules SPECIFICALLY say this'

it's not a mod call it's a lucid call. @separate page.
