Since I've returned I'm seeing a lot of suspicious things. There were always people playing with friends and that's okay, who doesn't want to play with people they like?
Although, it becomes ridiculous when its 60%+ of the games. Having someone with you constantly who wants you to win and will either try less hard or TR you whenever should be suspended, the runner should be too.
If its an 8 player game and you have 5 friends with you and it's day 8 of the round, you aren't fooling anybody. Just b/c you lost a few games doesn't mean you don't have people trying to make you win. Turning away from it and pretending that it's not happening isn't gonna prevent you from being called a meta abuser.
We have to figure these ppl are AWARE they have biased friends winning them games. It's a step down from cheating. I think trying to make your friend win more than yourself across enough games to win you a trophy should end in a suspension on both sides. People who play legit might end up losing if not.
I have no issue with meta as long as it doesnt make the game 100% impossible for mafia.
Nobody actually ran for a trophy back in the day, you just played with people who were fair and made the games fun and you either won or you didn't. Now people try so hard and inspire their friends to lose for them.
of course, there are extreme example of this... pre-meditated efforts to play for someone elses win condition. if the runner knows about it and still plays with them, its not a step below cheating, its cheating.
@OP lets be honest, everyone wants their friends to win a trophy, and whether it is consciously or subconsciously, it will effect their play... sometimes even if they are running themselves.
the only way to avoid this is to dodge your friends or run on a secret alt they don't know about.
of course, but not everyone has the moral compass to stop their friend from throwing for them/being biased towards them, especially when it helps the runner.
I think, more than this, is that they turn a blind eye to it since it's helping them. So they might not consciously ever realize it because most people rather not look out for these kinds of things. Very little way to prove it and when you win you wouldn't want to think it is because you played with your friends rather than your own effort (which there would be some of).
Even the friends themselves would turn a blind eye to what they're doing. Bias isn't exactly easy to spot when it's from yourself. You might be completely unsure who the mafia is between two people but hammer the other person cuz emotionally you'd feel worse if you hammered your friend and were wrong compared to the alternative. Yet after voting people would rarely register this fact, but consider it a "gut" hammer instead.
For these reasons I prefer runners who run in actually secret alts or just join open tables without stacking waiting etc. This way they avoid putting their friends in situations like those (at least consistently)
i've avoided certain people in games when i was running because i felt like they weren't playing to win in a game i was in (no i'm not going to say who)
of course, but not everyone has the moral compass to stop their friend from throwing for them/being biased towards them, especially when it helps the runner.

for the most part, an excessive amount of bias over a trophy run is considered a lower form of cheating
Does anything get done about it besides the thrower getting vios? Usually the runner gets off with no vios and a trophy
it only happens very, very rarely. it's really hard to prove and even harder to deny someone a trophy for it
I guess I see what you mean, but in so many games doesn't it become obvious to the runner what the thrower is doing? if that's your friend, don't you notice a different behavior?
Dude this game is an addiction. I tried balancing casual mafia with everything else and it just never works. Two planned games of mafia turns into ten.
Yeah you still exist on this account Giga, this is a different account.

Giga I don't think you're harsh, I think you're a naive little dude who takes things at face value and you're cute in the same way that kid puking all over the back of your seat on the airplane is cute
