Jenn here. Ugh. My mom just walked in on me during a past life regression. I was crawling around the floor slowly. She asked me what I was doing and I told her that she wouldn’t understand. She kept pressing and I told her I was experiencing past life regression. I told her about how I was a tortoise in my past life and about my tortoise memories. I ended up coming out as otherkin to her and had to explain what that meant. She got angry and told me to “grow up” and fill out some job applications online.

I don’t even know why she would tell me to fill out job applications when I’m going to be moving soon. I can’t wait to move. I am so sick of living with a bigotted alcoholic mother who is afraid of what she doesn’t understand.

people on tumblr take pride in literally making up genders.

The tumblr userbase is out to 'fix' things for the sake of fixing them. Is that really so different?

let's not talk about tumblr because i get frustrated knowing some insecure teenager is going to find it and try to find self-worth in pretending that they are pikachu in their soul instead of facing reality

Tumblr and 4chan have different requirements to be accepted, but the accepted vs non-accepted is pretty much identical.

in the literal sense of "both have in groups and out groups", yes

but the composition of said groups is wildly wildly different, aside from the fact that they're both predominantly counterculture nerdy types

Yeah, the requirements are different, but the overall outcome is the same. And when Tumblr dies and something new takes over, that'll have the same dynamic too. It's what the internet feeds.

it feeds the need for people in societal out groups to feel accepted but the agendas of the groups couldnt be more different. the tumblr userbase isn't out to start trouble for the sake of starting trouble

i don't see "tumblr" as a community at all because it's such a huge website that encompasses so many different people who use blogs and tumblr as a whole for so many different things and it's really really not hard to keep your tumblr environment (should you choose to have one) completely enclosed and only contain people who are Real, or share your interest

applies to reddit 4chan etc etc as well

I always thought tumblr was just whiny scene kids who listened to Black Veil Bride and had too much estrogen, so I steered clear

/v/ weren't douchebags to each other in the same way they were to people who weren't accepted though. It's more like the dumb "BANTA" you get from that certain social group irl.

i will say one thing about tumblr and it's that their humor is the most insipid and unfunny garbage ive ever had to read

they become so entangled in self-parody that nobody knows what is a joke anymore, which just becomes a joke in itself

Thing is, /v/ weren't all douchebags to each other. Tumblr is cliqued just like 4chan was cliqued, and the next big replacement will be cliqued. The internet feeds the establishment of cliques.

nah, they were douchebags to one another. it's just that everyone was in on the joke, and therefore not offended by the douchebaggery. it's the reason that things that passed for humor back in 2011 now draw vitriol. it's the reason the community's gone from largely defending the use of the n-word on the forums to largely being against the use of the r-word

tumblr is also a self-trolling circle of dumb when parody blogs start trolling themselves and each other and everyone involved as well
