The State of EM: Cheating

vildenover 11 years ago

I am writing about the prevalence of cheating, specifically multi-accounting in comp games. I'm pretty sure it's higher than ever, and honestly it is too time-consuming to research and draft reports on these idiots. They are getting clever by using fake personas and weird as f** language (obviously distinct from any other player at the table). It's funny when they accidentally break character (i.e. in 3way their lines suddenly become legible; overnight they turn into experienced players with magical towntell). It also makes the game REALLY depressing if you wind up mafia with the cheater's thrower account.

If you're playing competitively, lookout for accounts that just surpassed 1500 points and have weak win rates, and numerous suicides. Don't bother with a shady looking table, and just play with quality people because there are loads out there!

How would that be corny? Cheating takes the fun out of winning, unless you find the game of cheating to be a particularly rousing activity. The thing though, is that I think cheaters find more fun in watching the community commence a witch hunt to prove they cheated, along with the fact that a lot of people become angered that the trophies have been unfairly won and undeserved.

Is it corny to say I'd rather win through my own skill then cheat my way to the top? Cheaters are lame and desperate and have nothing better for them in life.
Yes it's corny. Doesn't make it less true though (^:

multi-account cheating is probably fairly rare, actually. certainly not the most prevalent type, i'd imagine
Yeah it's pretty uncommon still. Only a few "experienced" cheaters will ever attempt it these days.

Yeah I can relate to the feeling of rolling mafia with some random account you just know is a throw account for someone in the town.

Then lo and behold the same guy they play with every game just happens to be 100% confident you're mafia from day-start and pushes on you the entire game.

When that happens it almost makes me mad enough to write a pastebin.... almost...
