Compression on Avatars

deleteddeletedalmost 12 years ago

Anyone notice it seems to have been turned up? Uploaded AVs seem to have more noise in them.

I screwed up the thing when I changed my av, fixed.

Should strip the EXIF info then too, including ICC profile, which is set to sRGB Gamma 2.2 in most of the images I've seen, and that's the output default most places too.

EM:
6281 bytes

JPEGOptim -m95 --strip-all:
6195 bytes

JPEGOptim -m85 --strip-all:
3946 bytes

At the very least there could be an option so if the uploaded file is under a certain size and is the correct resolution and filetype it just passes through unmodified.

Neh, the compression library has changed. Chroma sampling on old avs is 4:4:4 and all the exif info was stripped. It's now 4:2:0 and the exif is still there.
