Suggestion: BBCODE

deleteddeletedabout 12 years ago

Hi Lucid! Since HTML is disabled on the forums+profiles, can you create a hack for an extensive list of BBCODE to replace the features we've always loved. And if it's possible, enable paragraph HTML for the h1, h2, h3, BR, and blockquote tags. Those are really the only useful ones for OP.

Ideas for bbcode addons:

  • Yourtube movie player - Just like on our profiles be able to embed Youtube videos into posts

[youtube]Full URL or vID of video[/youtube]

  • Hidden text - Allows people to write posts that will only be revealed when quoted.

[hidden]Hidden text here[/hidden]

  • Text alignment - Will allow users to align their text with Left, Right, Justify, and Center

[align=Left]Text[/align] [center]Text[/center] [align=right]Text[/align]

  • Text styles - Will allow additional underline, true italic, and strikethrough options. Allow them to be combined.

[s]Strikethrough[/s] [u]Underline[/u] [em]Italic[/em]

  • Spoiler text - Will hide text until someone clicks SPOILER to reveal what was hidden.

[spoiler]Spoiler text here[/spoiler]

[font=Arial]Text[/font] [color=Tomato]Text[/color] [size=12]Text[/size]

Clairabout 12 years ago
there is literally a button that automatically inserts the formatting for block quotes (">") into bios and OPs but it doesn't bloody work

did you know that h1, h2, h3, BR, and blockquote are all still possible in OPs using markdown?

last time lucid allowed this sort of thing people abused it to make the page instantly redirect to another page. i think lucid added like marquee
bbcode is more secure to use in posts and profiles than HTML. It would enable users to retain their formatting privileges while eliminating the exploits.

WYSIWYG editor
These should all die and burn in h***.

I much prefer being able to know exactly what I'm doing to my text.

Lucid, just use CKEditor. It's a secure WYSIWYG editor that allows the user to do so many different things WITHOUT the need for a formatting code.
I just played around with the demo. That looks pretty cool actually. But can it be integrated with our forums??

Thanks guys :)

text alignment would be pretty ugly with the post boxes we have. the rest of this looks good though
With the layout of the forum posts now, yeah. But it's more useful for OP and profiles :3

BBCode is a great formatting and is typically more cleaner than HTML. I support.

This looks great, lolwot. I like these suggestions. I think the HTML coding being disabled may be temporarily. We'll see when Lucid weighs in.
