It costs <$10 to get your pants hemmed at the bottom. I don't see what the big deal is.... Buy a pair of pants that sit comfortably at the waste. Don't buy them too short -- bring dress shoes with you and put them on while measuring the length. If they're a little too long, then go to a tailor (most dry cleaning places do some tailoring too) and just have them hem it around the dress shoe length and bam, you'll look like a human and you won't step all over the back of your pantleg

He can buy whatever length pant he wants as long as he goes to a tailor and gets them hemmed to fit properly around a dress shoe. Also, make sure they're not hanging around your , but are seated comfortably around your waist. GL
