Breaking Bad is really good. It's a fairly realistic drama that has a very dark sense of humor. The quality of writing is on par with shows like Mad Men and The Wire. The acting and character development is similar to The Sopranos. The lead actor of the show has won three consecutive Emmys and he may very well win a fourth. The show was created and is still run by Vince Gilligan, who was a principal writer for The X-Files.
I cannot recommend this show highly enough. The first three seasons are available on Netflix Streaming, and the fourth season will be on DVD and Blu-Ray fairly soon. The fifth and final season begins airing in a couple weeks. If you haven't seen this show yet, check out the first 4-5 episodes and you will have a pretty good idea of what kind of show this is. It covers a lot of different genres, is extremely stylistic, has great actors, and the writing is amazing.
