I second this, it would be pretty simple to implement, as well.

Problem: sound is pissing people off

Solution: Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume. and either turn the sound down or press mute

Conclusion: composer of this thread is not very bright in asking for a feature that already exists on one's own computer :(
